Fake journalist arrested for scamming people by promising to help them get their cases dismissed and then swindling 550 million VND.
Knowing that Ms. T.'s son (from Gia Lai) was facing legal troubles, Truong Quang Hung falsely claimed to be a journalist with extensive connections who could "fix the case," and then swindled her out of 550 million VND.
On December 12th, information from the Gia Lai Provincial Police stated that the Mang Yang District Police had arrested Truong Quang Hung (72 years old, residing in Ward 8, Ca Mau City, Ca Mau Province; temporarily residing in De Gol village, Dak Jrang commune, Mang Yang district) after two years on the run.
Hung was arrested by authorities for investigation into the crime of "Fraudulent appropriation of property".
According to the investigation results, around the end of 2022, knowing that Ms. T.'s son (residing in Ayun commune, Mang Yang district) was being investigated and prosecuted by the Quang Binh Provincial Police for "organizing the illegal use of narcotics," Truong Quang Hung provided false information that he was a journalist, knew many leaders nationwide, and could "fix the case" for Ms. T.'s son.
Trusting Hung and hoping her son would receive a lighter sentence, Mrs. T. gave him 550 million VND. Although he failed to secure her son's acquittal, Hung did not return the money but instead misappropriated the entire amount.
Upon investigation, the Mang Yang District Police determined that Truong Quang Hung had left his residence and continuously changed his whereabouts in various provinces and cities. After nearly two years of being missing, on December 9th, Hung was apprehended by authorities while hiding in Dak Jrang commune, Mang Yang district.
According to the Gia Lai Provincial Police, in 2001, Truong Quang Hung was sentenced by the Hanoi People's Court to 36 months in prison for "fraudulent appropriation of property".
The Mang Yang District Police are currently finalizing the case file for processing according to regulations.
