Driver and assistant driver arrested for transporting overloaded cargo and resisting traffic police.
On June 13th, the police arrested Ho Ba Quyen (born in 1988, driver) and Le Van Linh (born in 1995, assistant driver), both residing in Quynh Luu district, Nghe An province, for the crime of "resisting public officials."
Earlier, at approximately 9:45 PM on June 11th, a task force from Traffic Police Team No. 14, Traffic Police Department, Hanoi City Police, spotted a truck with license plate 37C-326.49 traveling on the elevated section of Ring Road 3 down to the service road leading to National Highway 1B (Phap Van - Cau Gie Expressway) showing signs of carrying oversized and overloaded cargo.
The task force signaled the vehicle to stop and used a loudspeaker to request the car to pull over for inspection. However, the driver refused to comply, driving straight into the rear of the police car; then, the passenger jumped out and hugged a police officer, obstructing the police car from moving so that the car with license plate 37C-326.49 could pass, after which the passenger jumped over the roadside fence and fled.
The task force reported to the unit commander, requesting reinforcements and coordination with professional units of the Traffic Police Department - Ministry of Public Security, and the Ha Nam Provincial Police to apprehend the suspects.
At approximately 11:17 PM on the same day, law enforcement officers stopped the vehicle at the Duc An gas station (Thanh Phong commune, Thanh Liem district, Ha Nam province); they also drew up a report and brought the driver, Ho Ba Quyen, and the vehicle to the police station for questioning. At 4 PM on June 12th, the co-driver, Le Van Linh, surrendered to the Hoang Liet Ward Police Station, Hoang Mai district.
Initial checks of the vehicle's total weight revealed 77.8 tons/34 tons (195.1% overload compared to the permitted carrying capacity); the goods on the vehicle lacked documentation proving their origin. On June 12th, the Hanoi City Police Investigation Department issued a decision to temporarily detain Ho Ba Quyen and Le Van Linh.
The Director of the Hanoi City Police has instructed the Criminal Investigation Department of the Hanoi City Police to urgently consolidate the case file and strictly handle the acts of resisting public officials and disregarding the law committed by the suspects, in accordance with regulations.
