(Baonghean.vn) - When apprehended, the ship had 12 compartments containing black waste that had been almost completely dumped into the sea. The ship's owner confessed that this was waste from Nghi Son brought into Nghe An's waters and illegally dumped.

On September 11th, the Quynh Phuong Border Guard Station in Hoang Mai town announced that they are holding a vessel with registration number LA 03 266 for illegally discharging waste into the sea off Nghe An province.

According to Mr. Tran Xuan Hieu, Commander of the Quynh Phuong Border Guard Station in Hoang Mai town, acting on information received from the public, at approximately 7 PM on August 8, 2016, the Quynh Phuong Border Guard Station, along with local militia and fishermen from Quynh Lap commune, coordinated to approach the vessel LA 02 266, which was moving from Nghi Son port to the waters bordering Thanh Hoa and Nghe An provinces and was engaged in dumping waste into the sea. The task force proceeded to stop the vessel's waste discharge activities.

At that time, there were 3 crew members and 1 woman on board. When asked to present identification, only one person was able to produce a national identity card bearing the name Huynh Sam Ral, born in 1982, residing in Hiep Binh hamlet, My Hiep Son commune, Hon Dat district, Kien Giang province, and this person claimed to be the captain. The others could not produce any further documents.

Inspection revealed that two compartments contained waste, while ten others had already discharged waste into the sea. According to the captain's statement, the waste the ship was carrying was dredged mud from the waterways of Hiep Thanh Co., Ltd., headquartered in District 8, Ho Chi Minh City.

The task force requested the captain and crew members of the ship to dock at Lach Corn port and go to the Quynh Phuong Border Guard Station for further investigation into the incident.
