Thief arrested for stealing bicycle from female tourist on a cross-Vietnam trip.
On the morning of July 22, the police in District 1, Ho Chi Minh City, announced that they are temporarily detaining Le Van Viet (51 years old, residing in District 1) for investigation into the act of theft.
Viet is suspected of stealing a bicycle belonging to Lithuanian tourist Rita Rasimaite (26 years old) in District 1 on July 1st.

According to initial statements and investigations, on the morning of July 19th, Viet rode his motorbike to 150/37 Nguyen Trai Street, District 1, and spotted a female tourist's bicycle parked in front of the hotel. He parked his motorbike and then took the bicycle to sell it for 2 million VND.
Subsequently, on the afternoon of July 21st, Viet went to alley 150 Nguyen Trai (District 1) and stole an electric bicycle belonging to a woman that was parked in front of a shop.
Viet was caught red-handed by the police while wheeling his motorbike out. The man's actions were all recorded by security cameras.

At the police station, Viet confessed that he was living and helping his wife sell noodle soup on Bui Vien Street (District 1). Due to his gambling addiction, he had fallen into debt and conceived the idea of stealing.
Reportedly, female tourist Rita Rasimaite had just completed a 3,600 km cross-Vietnam journey over two months on a bicycle that was stolen. After discovering her bike was missing, she shared the story on social media. She stated that she had only returned to Ho Chi Minh City the previous evening when her Cannondale Quick 5 mountain bike was stolen and had reported it to the police.
According to the police, the female tourist has left Vietnam, and authorities are currently carrying out procedures to return her belongings.
