Suspect arrested urgently for robbing a jewelry store and dragging a female employee along the ground.
On the evening of August 1st, the Ho Chi Minh City Police Staff Office announced that the City Police Investigation Agency had issued an emergency arrest warrant for Tran Anh Dung (born in 1994), residing in Quarter 15, Tam Thang Ward, Ho Chi Minh City; currently living at a rented room on Duong Thieu Tuoc Street, Quarter 21, Tan Son Nhi Ward, Ho Chi Minh City, for the crime of "robbery" in the robbery that occurred on July 29th at Kim Phat Nguyen 3 gold shop (Hamlet 4, Tan Vinh Loc Commune, Ho Chi Minh City).
Earlier, at 1 PM on July 29th, Ms. Huynh Ngoc Diem (born in 2000), a sales employee at Kim Phat Nguyen 3 gold shop at the aforementioned address, reported the incident to the police.
Specifically, at 11:50 AM on July 29th, at Kim Phat Nguyen 3 gold shop, a young man riding a red and white Wave RS motorbike (license plate obscured), wearing a blue t-shirt and black shorts, with a scar on his face, came to the gold shop and inquired about buying gold.
After being shown a 24k gold ring (women's) weighing 3.3 taels, worth approximately 36 million VND, by Ms. Nguyen Thi Yen Nhi (born in 2004), also a sales employee at the gold shop, the aforementioned young man looked at it for a while, then suddenly grabbed the gold ring and ran to his motorbike, started the engine, and sped away.
The female employee in the jewelry store immediately chased after the young man outside, grabbing his collar to stop him. However, the suspect sped away on his motorbike towards Vo Van Van Street and Dan Sinh Bridge after pulling the female employee to the ground, causing scratches on her arms and legs.
Upon receiving the report, the Tan Vinh Loc Commune Police, in coordination with the Criminal Police Department of Ho Chi Minh City, launched an investigation to apprehend the perpetrator. Shortly afterward, the police summoned Tran Anh Dung for questioning while he was hiding in Tan Son Nhi Ward (formerly Tan Phu District).
At the police station, Tran Anh Dung confessed to the crime. Initially, Dung stated that due to a lack of stable employment and mounting debts, he had pawned his laptop and phone to get money for expenses.
When the deadline for paying interest and redeeming the gold arrived, Dung had no money. Desperate, he decided to rob a gold shop to sell the gold and get money to make ends meet, but he was caught.
The police in Tan Vinh Loc commune recovered the victim's property, a 24K gold women's ring, and temporarily seized the Wave RS motorbike with license plate 72L8-8131, which Dung used to commit the robbery at the gold shop.
