On May 26th, seeing that Nhat (Ngoc's son) had a SKY phone, Phuong asked to borrow it to go online. That afternoon, Phuong told Ngoc that she wanted to invite the shop owner's family to karaoke that evening, under the pretext that Phuong's parents would meet Ngoc to pay the deposit for Phuong's apprenticeship.
Trusting her, on the night of May 26th, Ms. Ngoc, along with Phuong and several others, went to sing karaoke at a bar in Le Loi ward. While singing, Phuong used the excuse of borrowing Ms. Ngoc's iPhone 6 to take a selfie in the lobby. Believing her, Ms. Ngoc lent Phuong her iPhone 6.
Holding the phone, Phuong took a taxi and left the karaoke bar. Realizing she had been scammed, Ms. Ngoc reported the incident to the police.
The Le Loi Ward police deployed numerous detectives to investigate and track down Tran Thi Ha Phuong. Based on intelligence reports, the detectives determined that after committing the fraud, Phuong and several other delinquent youths lived a nomadic life, gathering to use methamphetamine and engaging in debauchery. They constantly hired taxis to change locations across multiple districts to evade the investigating authorities.
At approximately 5 PM on May 31st, after identifying Tran Thi Ha Phuong and several other individuals drinking and socializing at Cua Lo beach, a task force from Le Loi Ward Police arrived and immediately apprehended them.
Initially, at the police station, Phuong confessed to all her actions and stated that on the night of May 26th, after tricking the victim into giving her an iPhone 6, along with a SKY phone borrowed from Ms. Ngoc's child that same day, Phuong sold both phones for over 9 million VND. All of this money was spent on partying and using methamphetamine.
Investigators confirmed that Phuong had been using methamphetamine since 2013. She had previously spent time in a reformatory. The Le Loi Ward Police are continuing to investigate the case.
