Woman arrested for defrauding billions of dong and evading arrest for 16 years.
After 16 years of hiding under various identities, Nguyen Thi Lan, a wanted suspect for "fraudulent appropriation of property," has been arrested by the police.
On December 18th, the police of Hang Bot ward (Dong Da district, Hanoi) announced the arrest of Nguyen Thi Lan (born in 1960, residing in Hang Bot ward), a suspect.wantedsince 2008 on charges of "Fraudulent appropriation of property".

According to the case file, Nguyen Thi Lan embezzled a particularly large sum of money at the time through fundraising. After committing the crime, Lan fled and was issued a wanted notice No. 09 by the Ba Dinh District Police on April 2, 2008.
Determined to apprehend the criminal, police officers from Hang Bot Ward traveled thousands of kilometers to Ho Chi Minh City to verify and track down the suspect. On December 17th, the police successfully arrested Nguyen Thi Lan.
Lieutenant Colonel Vu Minh, Head of Hang Bot Ward Police, said that during his escape, Lan used many different names such as Ngoc, Lan Anh... The suspect lived a reclusive life, avoided contact with strangers, and often covered his face when going out to avoid being identified.
During his 16 years on the run, Lan lived alone, constantly changing residences and working various jobs such as packing sticky rice for hire, carrying heavy loads, doing domestic work, and serving in restaurants.
When arrested, Lan was surprised because he thought that changing his name, fleeing thousands of kilometers away, and using various methods to conceal himself would help him escape capture by the police.
The Hang Bot Ward Police have now handed over the suspect to the Ba Dinh District Police for further investigation and handling according to their jurisdiction.
