According to the police, Tam (47 years old, residing in District 8, Ho Chi Minh City) was a gold quality inspection technician at a gold and silver trading and pawnshop belonging to SJC Saigon Company (District 11, Ho Chi Minh City).

From May 2007 to November 2011, taking advantage of the trust of his colleagues, Tam repeatedly bought counterfeit gold and pawned it at the gold shop where he worked to obtain money for personal expenses.

In late 2014, Tam's criminal activities were discovered by SJC Saigon Company. Upon investigation, it was found that Tam possessed 87 packages of counterfeit gold, defrauding over 1.1 billion VND.

During the investigation, Tam voluntarily returned 147 million VND to SJC Company to mitigate the consequences, but he is currently unable to repay the remaining 961 million VND.
