According to authorities, the three suspects took control of Facebook accounts of Vietnamese community pages in Japan and Singapore by guessing passwords or creating fake Facebook accounts with similar interfaces.
Obtaining personal information and chat history of each account owner, they impersonate and send messages to their relatives in Vietnam to borrow money, buy things, buy phone cards or send money to pay tuition... Many victims, thinking it was real, transferred money to the account numbers they sent.
Authorities estimate that in February, the three suspects defrauded hundreds of people of nearly VND4 billion.
Anyone who is a victim should contact the police of Nhu Xuan district (Thanh Hoa) for support.
