On the evening of January 8th, the Investigation Police Department of Khanh Hoa province announced that they had served the indictment decision and executed the temporary detention order on the charge of "Fraudulent appropriation of property" against Hoang Thi Thanh Tu (born in 1986, residing in Viet Hung ward, Hanoi).
The investigation revealed that, as the Director of Hoang Gia Vietnam Trading and Services Co., Ltd., operating in the field of real estate consulting, investment, and brokerage, in 2017 Hoang Thi Thanh Tu approached Mr. TLK (residing in Dien Lam commune, Dien Khanh district – now Dien Lam commune, Khanh Hoa province) who wanted to buy land plots in the My Gia Urban Area project, Nha Trang City – now part of Nam Nha Trang ward.
Hoang Thi Thanh Tu claimed to have a "special relationship," allowing her to be given priority to purchase several land plots in the aforementioned project through "diplomatic allocation" at a price of 9 million VND/m². Tu told Mr. K that if he wanted to buy, he had to deposit 200 million VND per plot, with the remaining amount to be paid in full when the project developer officially launched the land plot sales.
Trusting Tú's lies, Mr. K transferred 14 billion VND to Tú as a deposit for the purchase of 70 plots of land over two years (2017-2018). After receiving the money, Tú embezzled it all to pay off bank debts, for personal expenses, and to invest in opening restaurants, eateries, bubble tea shops, and clothing stores.
When the My Gia Urban Area project officially went on sale in 2022, Hoang Thi Thanh Tu ignored her responsibilities because, in reality, this female director had no "special relationship" or "diplomatic privileges" as she had told Mr. K. When Mr. K contacted the project's investor representative to inquire, he discovered he had fallen into a trap. Unable to recover the money that had been stolen, Mr. K filed a complaint with the Criminal Investigation Department of the Khanh Hoa Provincial Police against Tu for fraud.
Based on the evidence and documents collected during the process of receiving and verifying information regarding the alleged crime, the Criminal Investigation Agency of Khanh Hoa Provincial Police has now initiated criminal proceedings and temporarily detained Hoang Thi Thanh Tu on the aforementioned charges for investigation and handling in accordance with the law.
