Police arrest female ringleader of illegal lottery ring worth over 1 billion VND.
The police have just dismantled an online gambling ring operating through lottery betting, led by Nguyen Thi Dung.
The Criminal Police Department of Quang Tri Provincial Police has successfully cracked case number 821B, involving individuals and organizations involved in gambling in the form of lottery and betting in the locality.
Earlier, at around 5 PM on April 23rd, a task force from the Criminal Police Department of Quang Tri Provincial Police discovered and apprehended Nguyen Thi Dung (born in 1972, residing in Nhan Bieu 1 village, Trieu Thuong commune, Trieu Phong district, Quang Tri province) while she was using her phone to log into a social media account to receive lottery bets.
Through verification, the police determined that Dung was the ringleader of a large-scale gambling ring that organized and operated lottery and betting activities.
At the same time, the Criminal Police Department of Quang Tri Provincial Police also deployed forces simultaneously, arresting 5 people involved in the gambling ring and gambling activities, including: Nguyen Thi Le Thuy (born in 1978, residing in Quarter 2, Ward 3, Quang Tri town); Truong Thi Kim Chi (born in 1978, residing in Quarter 2, Ai Tu town, Trieu Phong district); Nguyen Thi Thuy (born in 1977, residing in Xuan An village, Trieu Thuong commune, Trieu Phong district); Nguyen Thanh Son (born in 1981, residing in Nhan Bieu 1, Trieu Thuong, Trieu Phong); and Le Thi Be (born in 1977, residing in Xuan An, Trieu Thuong, Trieu Phong).
Through initial investigations, the police determined that these individuals belonged to a first-level "agency," daily receiving lottery and betting slips for many other people in Quang Tri town, Trieu Phong district, Hai Lang district, and some other neighboring areas of Quang Tri province.
This group then used fake social media accounts to transfer lottery and betting slips to Nguyen Thi Dung's account.
Through investigation, it was determined that the group of six people showed signs of committing the crimes of organizing gambling and gambling as stipulated in Clause 1, Article 322 and Clause 2, Article 321 of the Penal Code.
The Criminal Investigation Department of the Quang Tri Provincial Police is continuing to investigate other individuals involved in the gambling ring and illegal gambling activities.
Initial estimates suggest that the amount of money involved in the gambling ring and organized gambling operation led by Nguyen Thi Dung was approximately 1 billion VND.
The case is currently being investigated further by the Criminal Police Department of Quang Tri Provincial Police.
