Dang Thanh Hung has been taken into custody for defrauding people of nearly 10 billion VND.
Dang Thanh Hung is accused of using the "bank loan refinancing" scheme to embezzle nearly 10 billion VND from numerous people.
On March 31, the Can Tho City Police announced that they hadinitiate legal proceedings.The authorities have initiated criminal proceedings and temporarily detained Dang Thanh Hung (41 years old, residing in Hoa Luu commune) for investigation into the crime of "Fraudulent appropriation of property".
According to the initial investigation, from 2024 to 2025, Hung took advantage of his acquaintances, providing false information about needing money for clients to "refinance bank loans" within 3-5 days, promising to repay both principal and interest to lenders. Initially, Hung made payments on time to build trust, then continued to borrow larger sums of money.
In reality, Hung used the borrowed money to pay off personal debts, reinvest in interest payments on previous loans, and cover his expenses. From September 23, 2024, to April 16, 2025, many people transferred a total of over 13 billion VND to Hung, of which nearly 10 billion VND was embezzled.
The investigating agency determined that Hung's actions constituted the crime of "Fraudulent appropriation of property" involving a particularly large sum of money. The defendant's statements were consistent with the victims' statements and the documents and evidence collected.
According to the police, this type of fraud is not uncommon, yet many people remain unsuspecting due to trusting acquaintances or being attracted by high interest rates without thoroughly investigating the purpose of the loan or the borrower's financial capacity. People should not lend large sums of money based solely on acquaintances or verbal promises, to avoid being exploited by these individuals.
The Can Tho City Police Department announces that anyone who is a victim or has connections to the case of Dang Thanh Hung should contact the Security Investigation Agency (37 Street 1, Ngan Thuan Residential Area, Binh Thuy Ward) or meet with investigator Le Phuoc Trung at 0939.949.869 to cooperate in resolving the case.
