According to initial investigations, Nguyen Thi Huyen Nhung (born in 1999), Trung's wife, had a conflict on social media with Quach Thi Xoan (born in 1991), residing in Dac Lua commune, Tan Phu district.
On October 16th, Ms. Xoan went to the school to pick up her child and encountered Nguyen Thi Huyen Nhung. The two women got into a fight, but were separated. Afterwards, Ms. Xoan ran to the house of Lai Thi Tuyet Nhung (born in 2000) in Phu An commune, Tan Phu district. Meanwhile, Nguyen Thi Huyen Nhung called her husband to report that she had been assaulted.
Hearing his wife's call, Trung immediately drove his pickup truck to where she was. Ms. Ha Thi Lien (born in 1975), Huyen Nhung's mother, also rushed to Lai Thi Tuyet Nhung's house to talk to Ms. Xoan upon hearing that her daughter had been assaulted. A short while later, an argument broke out between Ms. Lien and Ms. Tuyet Nhung.
