Myanmar Election: Ruling USDP Chairman Admits Defeat
(Baonghean.vn) - On November 9, Chairman of the ruling Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP) Htay Oo admitted defeat in the general election on November 8 and said he would accept the results of the country's first free national election in 25 years.

"We have really failed... We have to find out why we failed. However, there is no final result yet," Htay Oo told Reuters in an interview.
Vote counting is still underway and official results have not been announced, but preliminary reports from across the country show Aung San Suu Kyi's opposition National League for Democracy (NLD) party holding a large advantage.
Htay Oo said he was surprised by the defeat of the ruling USDP in the Hinthada constituency in the Ayeyawaddy region. “I didn’t think it would happen because we have solved many problems for the people in this area. But anyway, it is the people’s decision,” he said.
According to Xinhua News Agency, on November 9, the President of the National Assembly and Speaker of the House of Representatives of Myanmar, Mr. Shwe Mann - a representative of the ruling Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP) participating in the general election on November 8 also admitted defeat.
