Goals: Pulisic (12'), Aubameyang (71') - Lewandowski (18'), Piszczek (88').
The match started excitingly with two goals in quick succession. 18-year-old Christian Pulisic opened the scoring for Dortmund after a mistake from Javi Martinez. The Spaniard miscontrolled the ball following a back pass from Vidal, allowing Pulisic to race past goalkeeper Sven Ulreich.
However, Bayern quickly equalized thanks to Lewandowski. The Polish striker easily tapped the ball into the empty net after a cross from Joshua Kimmich. This was a situation where the referees assisted, as the Bayern defender was behind the Dortmund defense when he ran down to receive the ball.
Dortmund took the lead again in the second half. Dembele played a through ball to Aubameyang, who broke the offside trap and slotted the ball past the opposing goalkeeper.
Luck continued to favor Bayern when, in a scramble in the final minutes, Kimmich's shot deflected off Piszczeck and into the net. The Dortmund defender's own goal forced the two teams into a penalty shootout.

From the penalty spot, goalkeeper Sven Ulreich became the hero for Bayern, successfully saving two penalties from Sebastian Rode and Marc Bartra. Meanwhile, only one Bayern player, Kimmich, missed his penalty.
The victory against Dortmund helped Bayern win the German Super Cup for the seventh time. This was Bayern's second consecutive win against Dortmund in the opening match of the new German football season, following their achievement last year. Last season, Bayern were eliminated by Dortmund in the semi-finals on their way to winning the German Cup.
Bayern will begin their Bundesliga title defense on August 18 against Leverkusen, while Dortmund will face Wolfsburg the following day.
