Bayern beat Dortmund to win German Super Cup

The Bavarian side won 5-4 on penalties after a 2-2 draw with Dortmund in regular time.

The match started brightly with two goals in a matter of minutes. 18-year-old talent Christian Pulisic opened the scoring for Dortmund after a mistake from Javi Martinez. The Spaniard failed to control the ball after Vidal's back pass, allowing Pulisic to run past goalkeeper Sven Ulreich.

However, Bayern quickly equalized thanks to Lewandowski. The Polish striker easily tapped the ball into the empty net after a cross from Joshua Kimmich. This was a situation with the help of the referees when the Bayern defender was standing under the Dortmund defense when he rushed down to receive the ball.

Dortmund took the lead again in the second half, Dembele playing a through ball for Aubameyang to beat the offside trap and chip the ball past the goalkeeper.

Luck continued to be on Bayern's side when, in the chaos in the final minutes of the match, Kimmich kicked the ball into the net, hitting Piszczeck. An own goal by a Dortmund defender forced the two teams into a penalty shootout.

On the 11-meter mark, goalkeeper Sven Ulreich became the hero for Bayern when he successfully blocked two kicks from Sebastian Rode and Marc Bartra. Meanwhile, only one Bayern player missed, Kimmich.

The win over Dortmund gave Bayern their seventh German Super Cup. It was Bayern's second consecutive win over Dortmund in the opening match of the new German football season, having done so last year. Last season, Bayern were knocked out by Dortmund in the semi-finals on their way to winning the German Cup.

Bayern will begin the defence of their Bundesliga title on August 18 against Leverkusen while Dortmund face Wolfsburg a day later.
