A newborn baby, still with its umbilical cord attached, was abandoned in a drainage ditch.

On April 3rd, 63-year-old Charmaine Keevy was walking her Georgie dog (a long-bodied, short-legged dog) near Elizabeth Bay in South Africa when the dog suddenly stopped and barked incessantly at a storm drain.At first glance, Charmaine thought there was a cat lying in the drain. However...As she got closer, she realized it was a newborn baby girl, still with her umbilical cord attached, lying there crying.Metro.
The old woman frantically waved to the drivers on the road until Cornie Viljoen's car stopped. Then, together, they used an iron bar to pry open the cement manhole cover.
Mr. Viljoen, 60 years old, crawled into the 1.8-meter-deep sewer to retrieve the baby. The baby was lying in the middle of a swarm of red ants.
"I really don't understand how anyone could do something so cruel to a child. But I'm also very glad we saved her. I turned to Charmaine and told her to call emergency services immediately," said Viljoen.to state.
The baby girl was then taken to the hospital, where doctors examined her and concluded she had hypothermia and some respiratory problems. Hospital staff named her Grace April.

"I usually take Georgie for walks along a different route, but for some reason, that day I took this one," Charmaine shared.
Police are currently searching for the baby's mother. Police spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu said: "It is possible that the person who abandoned the baby here is from another area. We are appealing to witnesses and the baby's mother to come forward."
