On April 3, Charmaine Keevy, 63, was walking her dog Georgie (a long-bodied, short-legged dog) near Elizabeth Bay, South Africa, when the dog suddenly stopped and barked continuously at a storm drain. At first glance, Charmaine thought there was a cat lying in the sewer. However,As she got closer, she realized it was a newborn baby girl, still with the umbilical cord attached, lying there crying, according toMetro.
The old woman waved to the drivers on the road until Mr. Cornie Viljoen's car stopped. Then together they opened the cement cover of the manhole with an iron bar.
Mr Viljoen, 60, crawled into the 1.8m deep sewer to pick up the baby, who was now lying in a swarm of red ants.
"I really don't understand who could do such a cruel thing to a child. But I was also very happy to have saved the baby. I turned around and told Charmaine to call an ambulance immediately," Mr. Viljoen said.said.
The girl was then taken to the hospital, where doctors examined her and concluded that she was hypothermic and had some breathing problems. Hospital staff named her Grace April.

"I usually take Georgie for walks on a different path, but for some reason I took this one that day," Charmaine shared.
Police are now trying to find the baby's mother. Police spokeswoman Colonel Priscilla Naidu said: "It is possible that the person who dumped the baby here came from another area. We are appealing for witnesses and the baby's mother to come forward."
