A 10-year-old boy has to forage for crabs and snails to support his father and grandmother.

(Baonghean.vn) - At just 10 years old, Nguyen Dang Hung from Hamlet 8, Nhan Son Commune, Do Luong District, spends his time outside of school catching crabs and snails to sell for money to support his sick father and his frail 70-year-old grandmother.

With the school's support, Nguyen Dang Hung had the opportunity to attend classes.

His father suffered from mental illness, his mother left when Nguyen Dang Hung was only 3 years old, and his elderly grandmother had to work hard every day to support her sick son and her young grandson. Despite the difficult and challenging family circumstances, his grandmother and neighbors in the village still supported and helped Nguyen Dang Hung to attend school.

But what distressed Mrs. Dang Thi Nhung (Hung's grandmother) the most was her son's difficult-to-treat mental illness. When he had an episode, he would smash and damage all the household items. Mrs. Nhung, now 70 years old, is often ill, so Hung had to rely on her grandson for all the household chores.

Outside of school hours, Hung often goes out to catch crabs and snails to earn money to support his sick father and elderly grandmother.

Despite his young age, Hung tried to do many things, from cooking, washing clothes, and cleaning the house to going to the fields to catch crabs and snails to support his family.

Teacher Nguyen Sy Tan - homeroom teacher of class 4C, Nhan Son Commune Primary School, said: "Because of his circumstances, Hung often doesn't come to school on time. The school and class regularly encourage and help Hung to attend classes regularly, and Hung hopes to go to school to learn and become a useful member of society."
