(Baonghean.vn) - Currently, the spring rice crop is heading, but many areas are threatened by rice blast disease, posing a risk of reduced yield. Local authorities are actively implementing disease control measures to protect the crop.

According to statistics from the People's Committee of Thanh Chuong district,To date, 473 hectares of rice in the area have been infected with rice blast disease, of which 20 hectares have a severe infection rate, posing a risk to yield and production if not controlled promptly.
Rice varieties severely affected by the disease include: Huong Uu 98, Thai Xuyen 111, and Thien Uu 8. The most severely affected communes are Thanh Yen, Thanh Khai, Thanh Luong, Thanh Tung, Thanh Khe, and Thanh Thinh… Mr. Nguyen Nhu Quan, Deputy Head of the District Plant Protection Station, said: Upon detecting the disease, the department advised farmers to spray specific pesticides according to the "four correct principles." If the first spraying is followed by rain, a second spraying should be done after 5-7 days. During the period when the rice is diseased, nitrogen fertilization should be stopped immediately…
Currently, the rice plants are in the tillering and heading stage. Leaf blast disease is temporarily under control, but the risk of neck blast is also becoming a concern. Therefore, to ensure a successful spring crop, localities are intensifying efforts to educate the public on effective disease prevention and control to prevent widespread outbreaks.
Meanwhile, in Nghi Loc district...Over 7,500 hectares of spring rice are in the late tillering and heading stages. Field inspections have revealed that rice blast disease is affecting over 300 hectares. The infection rate is commonly between 3 and 5%, with some fields experiencing rates as high as 30-50%.

The disease arises from the influence of weather and is severe in rice fields with high planting density and high nitrogen fertilization, especially rice varieties such as Lam Son 8, Thien Uu 8, and glutinous rice...
Ms. Dang Thi Hai, Head of the Plant Cultivation and Protection Station in Nghi Loc District, said: "After the control measures, we instructed local authorities in the district to focus on inspecting and monitoring infected areas for one week after spraying. If the disease spots are still present, we must continue spraying; if the disease spots are gone, we proceed with the second round of care and fertilization."
