Nghe An Friendship General Hospital saves 3 workers from the risk of paralysis after a work accident.
Nghe An Friendship General Hospital recently admitted and treated five workers who suffered serious work-related accidents after falling from a height at a construction site. Three of them underwent emergency spinal surgery.
According to information from Nghe An Friendship General Hospital: At 6 PM on April 20th, the patients were admitted with severe multiple injuries following a fall from a height of approximately 5 meters. Clinical examination, imaging diagnostics, and multidisciplinary evaluation revealed that all five patients had spinal injuries, pelvic fractures, and heel fractures of varying severity.

In treating patients, Nghe An Friendship General Hospital has implemented close coordination among specialties including emergency medicine, anesthesia and resuscitation, spinal neurosurgery, orthopedics and surgical intensive care... to provide comprehensive treatment and minimize sequelae for patients.
Notably, among the five patients, three suffered severe injuries, including spinal cord compression, loss of mobility, sensory disturbances, and sphincter dysfunction, and were scheduled for emergency surgery to fix the spine and decompress the spinal cord. The surgeries were performed from 9 PM on April 20th until 3 AM on April 21st.
The surgical and resuscitation teams of Nghe An Friendship General Hospital, led by Specialist Doctors Ngo Van Thanh (Department of Neurosurgery and Spinal Surgery), Le Van Dung (Department of Anesthesia and Resuscitation), and Luong Manh Hung (Department of Surgical Intensive Care), urgently performed surgery to treat nerve damage and spinal instability in 3 patients.

After three days of intensive treatment, the patients' conditions have stabilized. Encouragingly, the muscle strength and sensation in both legs of the patients with nerve damage have improved significantly, demonstrating the initial effectiveness of timely emergency care and treatment.
Falls from heights are one of the leading causes of serious injuries in construction workplace accidents. These accidents often lead to severe consequences such as spinal cord injuries, paralysis, complex fractures, or even death, leaving significant long-term disabilities for the victims. Workers need to strictly adhere to workplace safety procedures to prevent such accidents.
