The tragedy of the girl who just jumped off Ben Thuy Bridge to commit suicide.
On the afternoon of December 28th, on the cold banks of the Lam River, relatives of Thai Thi Ngoc Han still gazed at the boats slowly searching the river. Two days have passed since Thai Thi Ngoc Han jumped off the Ben Thuy bridge to her death, and the search team has still not found her body.
Thai Thi Ngoc Han was born in 1989 in Quan Bau ward, Vinh city, Nghe An province. A beautiful and virtuous girl, diligent and academically gifted, Ngoc Han grew up surrounded by the love and care of her parents and older brother.
Tragedy struck Ngoc Han after her marriage to an indifferent husband. In 2012, when her first son was 18 months old and showed unusual behavior, her husband disappeared without a trace. Since then, Ngoc Han's personality has changed. She became less talkative and more prone to crying... Along with that, her son's autism has also worsened.
After her husband left, Ngoc Han and her son went to live with her maternal grandparents. Ngoc Han's meager salary was not enough to cover the costs of food, education, and medical treatment for her son, so she had to rely on her parents and older brother for support.
As her child grew older, her illness worsened, and Ngoc Han gradually fell into a state of depression. In 2018, Ngoc Han's father passed away, which made her even sadder and her illness even more severe...
Out of love for their daughter, the elderly mother and her older brother tried their best to take Ngoc Han to various hospitals in Hanoi and Vinh for treatment. After each treatment, Ngoc Han would feel better, but when she saw her 12-year-old son, who could only smile innocently like a three-year-old, her own illness worsened...
In June 2024, Ngoc Han underwent a one-month treatment at the Nghe An Psychiatric Hospital. After that period, her condition improved significantly. Everyone was happy to see Ngoc Han happily going to work, taking care of her elderly mother, and looking after her son.
On December 26th, like any other day, Ngoc Han was scheduled to work until 7 PM. However, around 5 PM, she left the office and rushed straight to Ben Thuy Bridge. At that time, Ms. Tran Thi Huong, Ngoc Han's mother, received a phone call from her daughter saying, "I'm an unfilial child. Mom, please come to Ben Thuy Bridge to take me home." Upon receiving the call, Ms. Huong was devastated. She informed her son and relatives, and when they went to Ben Thuy Bridge, they only found her daughter's motorbike on the bridge. At that moment, Ms. Huong also collapsed, lamenting and weeping for her daughter.

For the past two days, Mrs. Huong and her son, Thai Huu Tham, have been stationed by the Lam River, watching the boats and canoes searching. Their father passed away early, and the family was already small; this unfortunate incident has made their situation even more difficult. Her brother has to handle everything alone, from setting up a makeshift shelter by the Lam River to running back and forth buying gasoline for the search boats. Occasionally, Ngoc Han's brother goes down to the boat to search, then rushes back home to check on his mother and niece's health...
Rescue teams also searched back and forth around Ben Thuy Bridge but still could not find the body of the unfortunate girl. Sympathizing with Ngoc Han's plight, a volunteer team also drove a speedboat down the Lam River to join the other teams in the search...
On the riverbank, Ngoc Han's relatives, friends, and colleagues were also intently watching every movement on the river. "Come home, my dear, the river water is very cold this season. Mom, your brother, and your son are waiting for you!" Her brother, Thai Huu Tham, cried silently as he looked out at the Lam River.
Ngoc Han passed away, and her 12-year-old son, still naive like a three-year-old, didn't understand what had happened. Seeing him like that, Mrs. Huong felt like her heart was being torn apart... "Why did you leave so foolishly? How will your mother and your son live?" Mrs. Huong hugged her grandson tightly when he asked, "Where did my mother go? She hasn't come home yet!"
It is known that Ngoc Han's family is in very difficult circumstances. Ngoc Han's salary is not enough to cover the medical expenses for both mother and son. Since she jumped into the Lam River, Mrs. Huong's family has spent a lot of money searching for her, but without success...
