The secret of the bomb that is hitting terrorists in Syria
The Russian Air Force has just released a video of an attack on rebels in Syria with extremely high precision using the KAB-500Kr - the type of bomb Vietnam equipped for the Su-30.
Images released in the video show that Russian Air Force fighter jets used KAB-500Kr bombs to attack IS terrorist targets with an almost absolute target deviation radius (CEP).
To be able to launch this absolutely precise strike, in addition to the reliability of the fighter itself, there is also the sophisticated design of the bomb used.

Specifically, the KAB-500Kr is a bomb used to destroy enemy targets including armored vehicles, radar bases, rocket launchers, infrastructure, ships and soldiers. To complete these missions, the KAB-500Kr uses extremely powerful explosives.
This weapon was developed based on the FAB-500 prototype, but it has been enhanced with many outstanding features. The KAB-500Kr version is equipped with a low-light television seeker, rudders on the body and tail, making it an unpowered, controlled glide bomb.
The bomb is 3.05m long, weighs a maximum of 520kg, and has a penetrator warhead capable of penetrating 1.5m of underground fortifications. The KAB-500Kr uses a television optical guidance system with an image sensor that can only be used in daylight conditions.
The bomb is guided to the target using DSMAC contrast image comparison technology. Thanks to this technology, the bomb has very high accuracy, target locking range from 15-17km depending on visibility conditions with CEP of only 1m.
The TV homing head with correlation algorithm processes target information with the ability to remember the target location and adjust the bomb's flight path to hit the target, i.e. applying the "drop-forget" principle.
The KAB-500Kr will allow the destruction of low-contrast and camouflaged targets when there are reference objects on the terrain and target coordinates compared to these reference objects. During the air campaign against terrorists in Syria, Su-34 bombers are regularly used by the Russian Air Force with KAB-500 bombs and the KAB-500Kr variant.
Notably, according to the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI), Vietnam also possesses this type of smart bomb.
SIPRI said that in 2009, Vietnam received 200 KAB-500Kr and KAB-1500 guided bombs from Russia to equip Su-30MK2 multi-role fighters under a contract previously signed between the two sides.
