Late in the afternoon of January 10, Mr. Ly Vinh Dinh, head of the Forest Protection Department of Tri Ton district, An Giang, said that the unit is preparing a file to impose an administrative fine of 7.5 million VND on Mr. Tran Vu Tai (51 years old, from China, temporarily residing in Ho Chi Minh City) for illegally transporting wild animals.

Earlier that morning, people went up Dai mountain in O Ta Soc hamlet, Luong Phi commune, Tri Ton district and saw Mr. Tai, Vo Minh Tan (HCMC) and Nguyen Viet Ai (Hau Giang) driving a car, carrying many bags of snakes up the mountain.

Suspecting that these people were going up the mountain to release snakes, the locals reported it to the Tri Ton District Forest Protection Department.

Immediately afterwards, the district forest rangers quickly arrived, temporarily seized the evidence including 10 bags containing snakes and invited the 3 people to the headquarters for questioning.

Initially, Mr. Tai confessed that he had just gone up to the mountain to worship at the pagoda with two drivers and planned to release these snakes to do good deeds and pray for good luck.

Through inspection, all of these snakes are extremely dangerous venomous snakes such as: tigers, clouded tigers, king tigers... with a total weight of over 26kg.

“We have drawn up a record of administrative violations against Mr. Tai, because he did not ask for permission from the local authorities but arbitrarily transported wild animals without a license from the relevant authorities. As for these wild animals, we are completing procedures with the Hon Me Wildlife Rescue Station (Hon Dat District, Kien Giang) to bring them back to the natural environment for conservation,” said Mr. Dinh./.
