The secret of the 'green uniform' shooters of Nghe An
Recently, Nghe An's "green uniform" shooters have affirmed their talent and bravery to achieve many outstanding achievements in regional and army-level shooting competitions.
Female shooter with left-handed shooting skills
In recent years, during the annual training ceremonies of the armed forces of Nghe An province, many people were impressed by the martial arts performances using daggers and nunchakus by the Border Guards of Nghe An province.
Among those officers and soldiers, Lieutenant Nguyen Thi Tra My (born in 1999) stands out with her extremely strong, decisive and skillful movements. Few people know that Tra My is also a talented shooter of the Nghe An Border Guard.

Sharing about this special female shooter, Major Nguyen Canh Tuan - Operations Assistant, Staff Department, Nghe An Provincial Border Guard Command said that Tra My has just won the second prize in the individual shooting event with 4 female K54 pistols at the 2024 Military Shooting Competition in the Border Guard force, Region I.
Directly accompanying and guiding Tra My during her participation in this tournament, Mr. Tuan said that due to the age requirements and many other strict criteria set by the Command, Nghe An Border Guard only had 3 female comrades who met the standards. For outsiders, when observing shooting, they often consider it leisurely, but in fact, this is a sport that requires a very tiring training process both physically and mentally.

Even though they are women, during the training process, each comrade must pay attention to practicing the key points, movements, and shooting proficiently, achieving the four elements: "equal, firm, even, and durable", which means: keeping the gun balanced and steady; the forces acting on the gun (right hand, left hand, breathing) must be even; health and mentality must be sustainable and stable. Along with that are the "4 rights" including: "correct aiming line, correct aiming point, correct posture and movement, holding breath and pulling the trigger correctly".
After a month of intensive training, Tra My has proven her outstanding ability by doing well in those factors. The test shooting score sometimes reached nearly 270, which is a very high score in this sport, so Tra My was chosen to become the only representative of the province to participate in the sports festival.
Standing in front of dozens of teams from Region 1, Tra My was quite calm to perform well in the shooting competition with both her left and right hands. What surprised many people was her very high score with her left hand. Shooting well with the left hand proves that the shooter has stable strength in the hand and an accurate aim. If we consider the time, Tra My has only been in the army for more than 2 years but to have this achievement shows that she has made very commendable efforts.
Currently, Tra My is the only female representative of the Nghe An Provincial Border Guard force participating in the 2024 All-Army Military Shooting Competition (including border guards, navy, army, air defense - air force, coast guard...) taking place in the near future.

The station chief is definitely a "gunman" on the border.
On the border land of Phuc Son, Major, Head of Phuc Son Border Guard Station (Anh Son) Hoang Van Giang always makes many people admire him for his outstanding shooting ability.
Although he was only born in 1984, Major Hoang Van Giang's achievements were marked by a series of Gold Medals and high prizes since he was a student at the Border Guard Academy. Accordingly, in 2006, when he was a second-year student at the Border Guard Academy, he won second prize at the academy level with 3 combined events: grenade throwing, shooting and 3,000m armed running.

In 2007, Hoang Van Giang was selected by the school to participate in the Military Sports Festival for the Triathlon organized by the Ministry of National Defense and won an individual Silver Medal and a team Bronze Medal. In 2008, he participated in the Military Advanced Shooting Festival for the AK submachine gun. He achieved excellent scores and ranked 15th out of 125 participants, although he was only a 4th year student.
In 2010, Hoang Van Giang graduated from the Border Guard Academy and was assigned to work at Dien Thanh Border Guard Station (Dien Chau). Since then, wearing the green uniform of Nghe An Border Guard, he has continued to work, train and bring glory to his homeland with many high prizes at shooting competitions.

In 2011, he continued to participate in the Military Shooting Competition in the Border Guard organized by the Border Guard Command, with the content of 4 combined military subjects for officers and won the third prize in the team. In 2013, he continued to participate in this competition with the team shooting category and won the third prize in the team. In 2016, he excellently won the first prize in the whole group; becoming a typical name in the team of shooters wearing "green uniforms".
Now, after nearly 14 years working in the provincial Border Guard force, comrade Hoang Van Giang holds the position of Chief of Phuc Son Border Guard Station and focuses on training many border guards and soldiers in the province.
When asked: "What factors help you achieve so many achievements in this difficult sport?", Major Hoang Van Giang said that in addition to talent and perseverance in training, continuous learning is very important. And the best learning process is through sports events, competitions, and being able to compete with other opponents.

Along with that, it is necessary to have a thorough understanding of the types of guns and the appropriate conditions for use. For example, shooting in sunny or humid conditions, early in the day or at noon, all have different points to note. This is accumulated during the training process.
According to Major Hoang Van Giang, with shooting, nothing can replace serious practice. For example, just the aiming motion, many times shooters have to practice with... bricks. That means holding a brick straight out in front of them for hours. Normal people will get tired after a few minutes, but shooters have to practice for dozens of minutes at a time.
The moment when the shooter is quietest is the moment when he spends the most energy. On the outside, it looks like he is just performing a few simple movements such as holding the gun, getting into position, aiming and shooting. But in reality, at this moment, the shooter's entire strength and mind are almost focused on aiming at the right target, keeping the gun steady without shaking, hitting the target, limiting the recoil of the gun... to achieve absolute accuracy.
