With a score of 28.7 in the A-block subjects, Ho Viet Manh, a student in class 12A1 of Nam Dan 1 High School, ranked 3rd in the province for A-block exam scores in the 2024 National High School Graduation Examination.

Since learning his exam results, Mạnh's family home in Hồng Sơn hamlet, Xuân Hòa commune (Nam Đàn district) has become more lively and bustling as relatives and neighbors come to congratulate the hamlet's top student on achieving high scores in the National High School Graduation Exam.

Manh said that he is naturally inclined towards science, especially excelling in Math, Physics, and Chemistry. Yesterday, he was very happy to know his exam results, but a little disappointed about his Math score. According to Manh, among the three subjects in the A-block, he was better at Math and Physics than Chemistry, but his Math score wasn't as high as he had hoped.

However, with a score of 28.7 in Block A (Mathematics: 9.2, Physics: 9.75, Chemistry: 9.75), Mạnh was the top scorer in Block A in Nam Đàn and one of the two candidates with the third highest Block A score in the province.

Sharing his study secrets, Mạnh said: “I think teachers at school are the ones who unlock the key to knowledge, while students need to cultivate a spirit of self-study. Self-discipline and diligence in studying are important factors in achieving high results.”

According to Mạnh, studying at a manageable level means avoiding excessive study time or staying up too late, as this can negatively impact health. During the learning and revision process, it's important to develop effective study and test-taking methods.

With his intelligent and inquisitive nature, the thin, small-framed student achieved many academic accomplishments: Third prize in the 5th grade Olympic competition; Third prize in the district-level excellent student competition in Mathematics in 6th and 7th grades; Second prize in the district-level excellent student competition in Mathematics and Physics in 9th grade; First prize in Mathematics and Physics in the school-level excellent student competition in 11th grade; and Second prize in the provincial-level excellent student competition in Mathematics and Physics in 12th grade.

Sharing her thoughts about Mạnh, Ms. Lê Thị Bích Hải, homeroom teacher of class 12A1, said: “Mạnh is a well-behaved student with good thinking skills and a diligent study ethic. Throughout his studies, he excelled academically and enthusiastically participated in group activities.”

As the eldest of three brothers in a farming family, with his parents often away from home, Mạnh had to take on household chores such as cooking, washing dishes, and gardening in addition to his studies to help his parents.

Besides farming, my father also works as a construction worker, and my mother uses her motorbike to transport vegetables from our hometown to Vinh City every day to sell. Despite their busy schedules, my parents always prioritize my education. My father personally drove me to and from school for nine years, from grade 1 to grade 9.

When Mạnh achieved high scores in the high school graduation exam, his family and relatives were all very excited. His father, Mr. Hồ Viết Trung, shared: “The family is very happy to know his exam results; it's the outcome we've all been hoping for, and it's commensurate with his hard work over the past years. We would like to express our gratitude to the teachers and the school for their support.”

Mạnh has been passionate about information technology since he was young. When he was admitted to Dang Chanh Ky Secondary School - a top school in Nam Dan district - his family bought him a computer, which he has used ever since.

Manh has always harbored the dream of becoming a programmer in the future. In the recent exam, he applied for his first choice of major: Computer Science at Hanoi University of Science and Technology.

With excellent academic achievements and two second-place awards in the provincial student excellence competition in Mathematics and Physics, Mạnh was directly admitted to the University of Technology, Vietnam National University, Hanoi.

Having achieved high scores in his high school graduation exams and been directly admitted to university, Mạnh said that if he gets accepted into Hanoi University of Science and Technology, he will choose to study there and is ready to move to the capital. The road ahead is still full of challenges, but hopefully Mạnh will strive, work hard, and further develop his self-study spirit to achieve even more accomplishments.
