Party branch secretary takes the lead in donating land to open a road.
(Baonghean) - In order for the village to quickly meet the criteria for road infrastructure according to the new rural standards, Mr. Nguyen Hong Van - Secretary of the Party branch of Village 5, Quynh Giang commune (Quynh Luu district) - took the lead in demolishing walls and donating land to the commune for road construction, receiving support and emulation from the local people.
Introduced by the commune officials, we visited the home of Mr. Nguyen Hong Van, born in 1972, Secretary of the Party Branch of Hamlet 5, Quynh Giang Commune. During our conversation, Mr. Van shared that Hamlet 5 has 218 households with over 1,000 inhabitants. The people's economy is primarily based on agriculture and small-scale trading, resulting in a low average per capita income.
The entire village has about 3km of roads that need to be paved according to the new rural standards. Due to the lack of prior planning, most village roads are narrow and difficult to travel on. Therefore, when the commune proposed widening the roads to meet the new rural standards, most people agreed and supported it. However, some people, due to their own interests, still have concerns.
Upholding the pioneering and exemplary role of a Party member, Mr. Van voluntarily dismantled 36 meters of boundary wall, rebuilt a 1.5-meter-high fence, and donated 58.8 square meters of residential land to expand the road.

Speaking about the responsibility of managing village affairs, the Party Secretary of Hamlet 5 said: "Although I was only recently elected as the Party Secretary for the first term, I always believe that once the people have placed their trust in me, I must do my best. Therefore, when I received the rural development plan from the commune, I realized that this was a correct policy that would benefit the people, and if I didn't act quickly, I would miss the opportunity. However, to gain the people's agreement and support, Party members must take the lead. Therefore, I decided that I had to be the first to take up a hammer and break down the wall so that the other households would follow."
Seeing the Party branch secretary's exemplary act of demolishing walls and donating land, the households unanimously agreed and voluntarily dismantled their structures for the commune to build the road. For example, Mrs. Nguyen Thi Thoan's household in neighborhood group number 4, initially hesitant, voluntarily donated additional land to widen the road by 5-6 meters. Mrs. Thoan shared: "Seeing the Party branch secretary's family demolishing walls and widening the road with a hammer, my family immediately supported the initiative, voluntarily dismantling our 19-meter-long boundary wall and donating an additional 24 meters of land to widen the road."
Not only did Mr. Van set a good example by being the first to donate land, but he, along with the village's Front Committee, also pondered over solutions and proposed specialized resolutions that were relevant to the village's reality, in order to quickly achieve success in building a new rural area.
There were times when the Party Branch Secretary, along with respected Party members and heads of village associations, had to go door-to-door to spread awareness and persuade people to understand and support the new rural development program. To date, 100% of households in the village have agreed to donate land without demanding compensation from the State, and have even voluntarily contributed 1.7 million VND per person to buy materials to pave roads with concrete according to new rural development standards.
Commenting on Party Branch Secretary Nguyen Hong Van, Mr. Le Xuan Trach - Chairman of the People's Committee of Quynh Giang commune, said: “The new rural development program is a correct policy, beneficial to the people and serving the practical interests in the lives and production of the people. However, to achieve the people's consensus and support, the leading and exemplary role of Party branch secretaries like Comrade Van cannot be denied. Under her leadership and the unity and solidarity of the people, Hamlet 5 is currently leading the new rural development movement in Quynh Giang commune.”
