Da Nang Party Secretary: We will not tolerate "gangsters rampant on the streets."

The Secretary of the Da Nang Party Committee requested that the police force prevent the formation of organized crime gangs operating in a mafia-style manner within the city.

On the morning of August 10th, the second session of the Da Nang City People's Council entered its discussion phase, addressing many pressing issues such as environmental pollution, security and order, investment attraction, and unsafe food.

Colonel Le Thanh Hai, Deputy Director of the Da Nang City Police, provided an update on the situation.Crime in Da Nang is becoming increasingly complex, with many cases of motorbike theft due to people's lack of vigilance.

"It's a livable city, but the people are also careless, leaving their windows open when they go to sleep," Mr. Hai remarked.

Speaking afterward, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Anh (Secretary of the City Party Committee, Chairman of the People's Council of Da Nang City) stated that theft in Da Nang is happening "as frequently as worms; things are stolen in the blink of an eye." Mr. Xuan Anh recounted the story of a tennis ball collector who, while commuting to work on his motorbike, suddenly switched to a bicycle. When asked why, he learned that the man had parked his motorbike to eat a bowl of rice, and as soon as he looked away, his belongings were stolen. "He reported it to the police, but the police just circled around a few times for show and then left. Two days later, thefts occurred again in that area," Mr. Xuan Anh said.

According to the Secretary of the Da Nang Party Committee, in many cases, when people report theft and the police only respond superficially, it will only make people more frustrated. In particular, tourists visiting Da Nang who report theft to the local police but receive no resolution have to file complaints with the city leadership.

The Secretary of the Da Nang Party Committee said he encountered several notorious gangsters, heavily tattooed, swaggering around the streets. "These individuals are incredibly arrogant, treating others like dirt, and are ready to pick fights," Mr. Xuan Anh said, emphasizing that such behavior is unacceptable in a livable city."Gangsters are everywhere on the streets."

Mr. Xuan Anh also frankly stated that Da Nang is small in area and population, yet "the authorities are incompetent." The city's leader directed that all cases occurring in Da Nang must be investigated and prosecuted according to the law, "without missing a single case."

In his speech, the Secretary of the Da Nang Party Committee also mentioned the phenomenon of many city residents driving against the flow of traffic, running red lights, and parking right under signs prohibiting parking on even and odd days. "I have stopped many people driving against the flow of traffic on Hoang Dieu Street. These are very small things, but they affect the city's tourism," Mr. Xuan Anh said.

During the discussion session, the Da Nang police chief stated that...Since the beginning of the year, the city police have fined 27 unlicensed tour guides, including 15 South Koreans and 12 Chinese. Four companies employing unlicensed tour guides have had their licenses revoked.

"We have also dealt with Vietnamese individuals who assisted foreigners in illegal tourism activities, and forced foreigners who violated the law to leave the country before their visas expired," said Le Thanh Hai, Deputy Director of Da Nang Public Security.
