The Provincial Party Secretary emphasized the need for sidewalk renovation in Vinh City.
(Baonghean.vn) - Vinh City is beautiful and different from other cities because of its wide sidewalks, so renovating parking lots needs to be considered, otherwise it will obstruct the spacious walkways for pedestrians.
Currently, Vinh City is constructing a series of projects and renovating to celebrate its 10th anniversary as a Class 1 urban area. This includes renovating some sidewalk areas on Le Mao, Ho Tung Mau, Le Hong Phong, Nguyen Thi Minh Khai, and Quang Trung streets to create parking spaces. However, during construction, the temporary parking areas were not properly planned and arranged, resulting in chaotic traffic and illegal parking.
According to our observations, on Le Mao Street, there are sections where construction occupies half of the road, and there are also instances of cars parked directly on the unfinished construction areas, making the road narrow and hindering traffic flow.
Some residents also argue that the roads where sidewalks are being renovated for pilot parking projects are key routes in Vinh City, always experiencing high traffic density, especially during rush hour. The sidewalk construction further exacerbates traffic congestion during peak hours. Experience in Hanoi and other cities shows that sidewalk renovation and repair work carried out on weekends and at night has significantly reduced traffic jams during peak hours.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Nhung from Hung Binh ward said: "During peak hours, it's very difficult to get through Le Mao street due to the heavy traffic, and construction materials and machinery are also located right next to the road. Many people have to choose other, less congested routes to travel."
Not only Le Mao Street, but also streets like Le Hong Phong, Nguyen Thi Minh Khai, Quang Trung... have chaotic parking situations. Even at some points, despite signs and barriers separating the construction areas, people still park their vehicles there.
"Perhaps the city of Vinh should arrange a reasonable construction schedule and require the contractor to assign personnel to ensure traffic safety on the sidewalks, absolutely preventing the current chaotic situation," a resident said.

According to the Provincial Party Secretary, sidewalks should have access ramps, as there are currently no ramps from beginning to end; the city's sidewalks are quite high compared to the road. Secondly, Vinh City is beautiful and different from other cities because of its wide sidewalks, so the renovation of parking areas needs to be considered, otherwise, it will obstruct the spacious walkways for pedestrians.
The Party Secretary also reminded the city: Building sidewalks is different from widening roads. Sidewalks are still sidewalks. When parking lots are available, the city must return the sidewalks to pedestrians.
