Made up a tragic love story and took over 300 million VND from his uncle.
Men made up his tragic love story to arouse other people's sympathy, thereby appropriating more than 300 million VND.
Le Thi Men (born in 1996, residing in Thuc Khang commune, Binh Giang district, Hai Duong) does not have a stable job. In 2016, Men left her hometown to Hanoi to find work and stayed at the house of Phan Thi Luong (born in 1974, residing in Thinh Liet ward, Hoang Mai district, Hanoi), Men's cousin.
Because Ms. Luong trusted her, Men came up with the idea of creating false information to deceive Ms. Luong to take her money. Men created a virtual lover named Son and then made up a story that her friend was jealous and spread the news that she was pregnant with Son to seek Ms. Luong's sympathy.

After hearing her niece's "heartfelt" stories, Ms. Luong trusted Men and gave her 7 million VND to help her solve her "emotional problems".
Seeing that the fish had taken the bait, from October 2016 to August 2017, Men used Zalo to create a fake account and continuously texted Ms. Luong, appropriating a total of 327 million VND for personal expenses.
Determining that Men’s crime was serious, the Court of First Instance sentenced Men to 8 years in prison for fraud and appropriation of property. Men then filed an appeal for a reduced sentence.
At the appeal hearing, considering the defendant's sincere confession and clear remorse, the panel of judges sentenced Men to 7 years and 6 months in prison.
