Breast milk turns blue, possibly due to the effects of antibodies against the SARS-CoV-2 virus.

Omicron infected patientusually have milder symptoms, most similar to a cold. However, an expert has revealed one unusual symptom that mothers should be aware of.

Nikki Jurcutz, CEO of Australian Parents - Little Hearts Education, shared that a mother's milk turned blue after she contracted Covid-19.

“The antibodies in the mother's milk are working to change the color of the milk,” Jurcutz explains.

“When a mother breastfeeds, her body does what seems like a complete scan of every organ to create the perfect breast milk for her baby.”

Breast milk is often referred to as “liquid gold” because of its ability to tailor nutrients to your baby's needs.

Mother-of-two Ashmiry, who shared a photo of her two bags of breast milk before and after contracting the SARS-CoV-2 virus, said: “I really wanted to share this photo. It tells me something about what is going on in my body and my baby’s.”

Although green milk is believed to be a result of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, not all mothers experience this phenomenon.

Milk turning blue can also be caused by food and drink. Experts advise mothers not to panic when they see this discoloration.

The Australian Breastfeeding Association notes that green breast milk can occur after a woman eats large amounts of green foods such as vegetables, kelp, seaweed tablets or natural vitamins.

“When a woman breastfeeds, the entire body of mother and baby is scanned to find out exactly what needs to be added to the milk to keep the baby healthy,” says Goldilacts consultant.

The color of breast milk changes due to an increase in immunoglobulins, white blood cells - cells that fight disease.

An immunology study found that when a baby is sick, the number of white blood cells in breast milk increases dramatically.
