Bill Gates teaches how to get rich from raising chickens.
The Microsoft founder stated on his personal blog that if he had to live on less than $2 a day, he would raise chickens to escape poverty.
Nearly a billion people worldwide currently live in poverty, or below the extreme poverty line. And billionaire Gates's Foundation believes that raising chickens can help them. He is planning to donate 100,000 chickens to people in sub-Saharan Africa.
"Our goal is to help 30% of rural families in this area have chickens to raise. The current rate is only 5%," he wrote. The Gates Foundation has partnered with Heifer International, a relief organization, to provide poultry and training in farming methods to communities around the world.

He said that chicken and eggs are important sources of nutrition for struggling families. They are also in high demand in sub-Saharan Africa, so they would be relatively easy to sell. An average chicken sells for $5. This means people can quickly sell their chickens to cover daily living expenses or for emergency use.
Raising chickens is often considered a woman's job. Therefore, it's an opportunity for them to increase their independence, have more say in family decisions, and control the family's income.
"Studies show that if women control the money, they tend to spend it on activities that help reduce poverty (such as education, healthcare, or nutrition) more than men," said Melinda Gates, the billionaire's wife. "I've also done a lot of research and I'm most impressed by the results that – when women control household spending, their children are 20% more likely to live past the age of five," she added.
