Black Friday: An opportunity to clear out old stock.

Black Friday is not only an opportunity for fashion enthusiasts to buy goods at discounted prices, but also a chance for businesses to clear out their excess inventory.

These days, brands in several major shopping malls in Ho Chi Minh City are offering simultaneous discounts of 30-50% on some or all products. The discounts last for 2-3 days or more, depending on the company's policy.

At a home appliance store in Vincom Central, a store employee said the store was offering a 50% discount on some display products.

"For newly released products, we're offering a 10-20% discount to celebrate Black Friday," an employee said.

The employee added that every year on "Black Friday," the store is always crowded, with staff constantly having to go to the warehouse to restock, but this year it's impossible to predict. The number of customers remains normal despite the discount signs.

Meanwhile, clothing and fashion brands were the most enthusiastic participants in the discount event. At a large store specializing in women's fashion at Saigon Central, the marketing team had to prepare a month in advance.

"The store is having a simultaneous sale with discounts ranging from 30% to 50% on women's clothing and accessories, with particularly strong discounts on domestically designed items," the store manager shared.

Unlike other stores that only offer discounts for one or two days, this store offers continuous discounts until mid-December. This is to encourage customers to shop at the end of the year, while also showcasing designs for the Spring/Summer 2017 season.

Some fashion stores selling designer items from Germany and France also offer a selection of unique designs made in Vietnam, all priced at 599,000 VND. However, there are no specific sale plans yet for imported goods.

Having just left a major fashion brand, Hoang Anh (District 1, Ho Chi Minh City), a fashion enthusiast, shared that not only on Black Friday but also at most discount events throughout the year, she goes to shopping malls to shop.

"Actually, the items on sale on Black Friday aren't necessarily the best in the store. Genuine branded items are usually on sale at average prices, just like on regular holidays, with discounts of 10-20%, or at most 30%," Hoang Anh said.

A number of businesses are participating in Black Friday.

She added that Black Friday is not only a time for stores to offer discounts, but also an opportunity to "get rid" of old, outdated goods. Some places even sell counterfeit goods that are impossible to distinguish from the real thing unless you're an expert.

"Sneakers are a prime example. The level of counterfeiting has improved significantly, with fakes of all kinds—types 1, 2…—making it difficult to distinguish them with the naked eye," Hoang Anh emphasized.

In addition, with years of shopping experience, she has learned a few tips to avoid buying used goods or fake sales, such as visiting a store a few days before the sale to check the price and style of the product. Wait until the sale day and check if there are any changes.

"Some stores change prices and styles on the main sale day," this fashion enthusiast shared.
