Vietnam's BMP-2s have the opportunity to become all-around 'killers'.

According to RIA Novosti, the KBM Design Bureau (Russia) has just released a new modernization package for the BMP-2 infantry fighting vehicle, upgrading it to the BMP-2M Berezhok B05S011 standard.

The upgraded BMP-2M Berezhok infantry fighting vehicle model, using the B05S011 anti-tank guided weapon system, has just been unveiled by the Konstruktoskoye Byuro Mashynostroyeniya (KBM) design bureau in Moscow (Russia).

The new BMP-2M Berezhok upgraded by KBM was redeveloped from a previous upgrade solution by another unit, the KBP Design Institute.

In the modernization plan for the new BMP-2 infantry fighting vehicle, KBM uses the B05S011 guided weapon system, which allows for the equipping of two launchers for advanced 9M120 anti-tank guided missiles.

With its enhanced firepower thanks to the B05S011 guided weapon system using 9M120 missiles, the BMP-2M Berezhok can destroy all types of modern tanks and armored vehicles in the future, as well as bunkers, ships, and even low-flying aerodynamic targets at speeds below 400 km/h in all day and night conditions.

The B05S011 guided weapon system, designed by KBM, can be mounted on the turrets of many different armored vehicle and infantry fighting vehicle platforms such as the BMP-2M Berezhok, BTR-90, and even foreign platforms.

Thanks to the superiority of the 9M120 anti-tank missile family (9M120-1, 9M120-1F, 9M120-1F-1), the new BMP-2M Berezhok upgrade package can engage ground targets from a range of up to 6 km and airborne targets at an altitude of 3.3 km.

In addition to integrating the B05S011 guided weapon system, the BMP-2M Berezhok also possesses strong defensive capabilities thanks to a previous upgrade package from the KBP Design Bureau in Tula.

In addition to the two skirt-like armor plates that closely hug the sides, the BMP-2M Berezhok is also equipped with additional "pigsty" armor plates around the turret, on both sides, at the front, and even around the two rear hatches.

With the latest upgrades, the BMP-2 – an outdated infantry fighting vehicle – has become more powerful than ever thanks to its comprehensive offensive and defensive capabilities. This would certainly be a good suggestion for Vietnam if we require an upgrade to enhance our combat capabilities on the modern battlefield.

This upgrade package is considered a reasonable option for countries with limited defense budgets. Furthermore, this upgrade package also holds significant potential in India. The South Asian nation's army is planning a large-scale upgrade of its existing BMP-2 and BMP-1 infantry fighting vehicle units.
