The new generation BMW 5-Series fuel-efficient version.

In mid-October this year, the company officially introduced the new generation 5-Series to consumers worldwide. However, it wasn't until recently that BMW released detailed information and images of the plug-in hybrid version of the 5-Series, called the 530e iPerformance.

Thus, BMW's plug-in hybrid lineup has gained a new member. Previously, BMW's plug-in hybrid lineup included the X5 xDrive40e, 225xe, 330e, 740e, 740Le, and 740Le xDrive.

The heart of the 2017 BMW 530e iPerformance is a powertrain consisting of a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder gasoline engine producing a maximum power of 184 horsepower and a maximum torque of 320 Nm. This engine is paired with an electric motor delivering a maximum power of 95 horsepower and a maximum torque of 250 Nm.

Furthermore, the 2017 BMW 530e iPerformance is equipped with a 9.2 kWh high-voltage battery pack located beneath the rear seats. This placement allows BMW to create a 410-liter luggage compartment for the 2017 530e iPerformance. According to BMW, this battery pack only takes approximately 5 hours to fully charge using standard household electricity. If using the BMW i Wallbox fast charging system, the charging time is reduced to under 3 hours.

This entire powertrain generates a maximum power of 252 horsepower and a maximum torque of 420 Nm. Power is transmitted to the rear wheels, allowing the 2017 BMW 530e iPerformance to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 6.2 seconds and reach a top speed of 235 km/h.

Even more impressively, the 2017 BMW 530e iPerformance can travel nearly 644 km in hybrid mode. Meanwhile, running solely on electric power, the 2017 BMW 530e iPerformance can travel 47 km and reach a top speed of 140 km/h.

The 2017 BMW 530e iPerformance offers three different driving modes: Auto eDrive, Max eDrive, and Battery Control, which the driver can select via the eDrive button located to the left of the gear lever.

In terms of exterior design, the 2017 BMW 530e iPerformance boasts several distinctive features, such as the vertical blue bar on the kidney grille, which matches the color of the wheel arch caps.

Meanwhile, the "eDrive" logo is on the C-pillar, while the "530e" logo is affixed to the rear of the vehicle.

Stepping inside the 2017 BMW 530e iPerformance, the driver will see illuminated door sills with the words "eDrive" printed on them.

Furthermore, the 2017 BMW 530e iPerformance is equipped with a special display for the instrument cluster and infotainment system. This display connects to the latest generation BMW iDrive system and iDrive controller. The BMW Connected system, which allows smartphone connectivity, is also available on the 2017 BMW 530e iPerformance. The BMW Connected Onboard feature allows drivers to personalize information such as the next destination, estimated arrival time, and weather conditions at their destination.

In terms of safety, the 2017 BMW 530e iPerformance features a rear cross-traffic alert system, lane change assist, lane keeping assist, and active side collision avoidance. Meanwhile, adaptive cruise control is only an optional feature on the 2017 BMW 530e iPerformance.

The price of the 2017 BMW 530e iPerformance has not yet been announced. Meanwhile, the new generation BMW 5-Series starts at $52,195 in the US market.
