The U.S. State Department declared that the Western Hemisphere is a concern for Washington.
The U.S. State Department issued a statement declaring the Western Hemisphere to be an area of interest for Washington.

According to RIA Novosti, the US State Department issued a statement saying that the Western Hemisphere is an area of concern for Washington. "This is our hemisphere, and President Donald Trump will not allow threats to our security," the US State Department said in a statement on social media.
The U.S. State Department included a black-and-white photo of the American leader at one of the official events in its post, on which the slogan was written in white and red letters: "This is OUR hemisphere."
This statement from the US State Department comes amid rising tensions in the Western Hemisphere, particularly following the US landing operation in Caracas, Venezuela.
According to President Donald Trump, the US carried out large-scale attacks on the Venezuelan capital, and Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife were arrested and taken out of the country.
The first hearing in the case involving leader Maduro was held on January 5th (Washington time). According to documents from the US court, the Venezuelan president faces four life sentences on charges of "conspiracy to engage in terrorist activities, drug trafficking, cocaine smuggling, possession of machine guns and explosive devices, and conspiracy to use them against the United States."
Relations between Caracas and Washington deteriorated after the U.S. began regularly using armed force to destroy ships in the Caribbean Sea allegedly transporting drugs. Additionally, the White House authorized the CIA to conduct covert operations in Venezuela to destabilize President Maduro's government. In mid-December 2025, President Trump declared the leader of the Latin American nation a foreign terrorist organization and demanded the return of oil, land, and money allegedly stolen from the U.S.
Authorities in Caracas believe the goal of the US attack was to gain control of Venezuela's oil and mineral resources. The Venezuelan Foreign Ministry has requested an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council and plans to call on other international organizations.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said that the United States had not complied with international law in the course of its operations.
