Appointment of the abbot and casting of the large bronze bell for Yen Thai Pagoda.

(Baonghean.vn) - On December 18th, the Executive Board of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha in Nghe An province held a ceremony to announce the appointment of Venerable Thich Tam Ngoc as the abbot of Yen Thai Pagoda in Son Hai commune, Quynh Luu district, and also held a ceremony to consecrate the casting of a large bronze bell.

The ceremony was attended by representatives of the Executive Board of the Vietnam Buddhist Association of Nghe An, Thua Thien Hue, and Ho Chi Minh City; leaders of departments, agencies, and organizations of Nghe An province and Quynh Luu district; and a large number of monks, nuns, and Buddhist followers from within and outside the province.

Yen Thai Pagoda, built during the Ly Dynasty (1009-1025), features ancient architecture with curved tiled roofs. The pagoda still preserves an ancient Guardian Deity statue made of a single block of green stone, 1.2 meters tall; a stone bell dating from the Ly-Tran period (11th-14th centuries); two Buddha statues; a Maitreya statue; and a turtle made of a single block of stone, carrying a stone stele on its back, along with many other rare and valuable original artifacts of significant spiritual importance.

The pagoda has been included in the list of provincial-level historical relics according to Decision No. 1017/QD-UBND.VX of the People's Committee of Nghe An province.

Venerable Thich Thanh Nhieu - Vice Chairman of the Central Executive Council of the Vietnam Buddhist Association, Head of the Executive Board of the Vietnam Buddhist Association of Nghe An province, presented the Decision to Venerable Thich Tam Ngoc as the abbot of the pagoda.

Currently, the Provincial People's Committee has agreed in principle to allow the survey and selection of a location to expand the grounds and plan for Yen Thai Pagoda, and to proceed with the steps to grant land use rights certificates for spiritual purposes.

At the ceremony, Venerable Thich Thanh Nhieu - Vice Chairman of the Central Executive Council of the Vietnam Buddhist Association, Head of the Executive Board of the Vietnam Buddhist Association of Nghe An province - presented the Decision to Venerable Thich Tam Ngoc as the abbot of Yen Thai Pagoda.

During the ceremony, the temple held a blessing ceremony to pour molten bronze for casting a large bronze bell weighing 1.2 tons, 1.2 meters high, and valued at 600 million VND, crafted by artisans from Thua Thien - Hue.

Twenty scholarships were awarded to underprivileged students.

On this occasion, Yen Thai Pagoda also awarded 20 scholarships to poor but studious students, each worth 700,000 VND, and 30 gifts to poor households, each worth 400,000 VND.

Earlier, the temple vowed to hold a Buddhist ceremony to pray for peace and prosperity for the nation and the successful completion of Buddhist activities.
