(Baonghean.vn) - On December 18, the Executive Committee of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha in Nghe An province held a ceremony to announce the decision to appoint Venerable Thich Tam Ngoc as abbot of Yen Thai Pagoda, Son Hai Commune, Quynh Luu District, and held a ceremony to bless and cast the great bell.

The ceremony was attended by representatives of the Executive Committee of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha in Nghe An, Thua Thien Hue and Ho Chi Minh City; leaders of departments, agencies, sectors and organizations of Nghe An province, Quynh Luu district and a large number of monks, nuns and Buddhists inside and outside the province.

Yen Thai Pagoda was built during the Ly Dynasty (1009 - 1025), with ancient architecture and curved tiled roof. The pagoda still preserves an ancient Dharma Protector statue made of a single block of green stone, 1.2m high, a stone gong from the Ly - Tran Dynasty (11th - 14th century), two statues of the Bodhisattva, a Maitreya statue and a turtle made of a single block of stone, carrying a stone stele on its back and many rare original artifacts with outstanding spiritual value.

The pagoda has been included in the list of provincial relics according to Decision No. 1017/QD-UBND.VX of Nghe An Provincial People's Committee.

Currently, the Provincial People's Committee has agreed in principle to allow surveying and selecting a location to expand the campus and planning of Yen Thai Pagoda and taking steps to grant land use right certificates for spiritual purposes.

At the ceremony, Most Venerable Thich Thanh Nhieu - Vice President of the Central Executive Council of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha, Head of the Executive Committee of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha of Nghe An province presented the Decision to Venerable Thich Tam Ngoc, abbot of Yen Thai pagoda.

During the ceremony, the pagoda held a ceremony to pour bronze to cast a large bell weighing 1.2 tons, 1.2 meters high, worth 600 million VND, crafted by artisans from Thua Thien - Hue.

On this occasion, Yen Thai Pagoda also awarded 20 scholarships to poor but studious students, each worth 700,000 VND, and 30 gifts to poor households worth 400,000 VND each.

Before that, the temple vowed to organize a vegetarian feast, burn candles and release doves to pray for national peace and prosperity, and for Buddhist activities to be successful.
