According to RIA Novosti on September 6, Chairman of the Budget Committee of the Verkhovna Rada (Ukrainian Parliament), Roksolana Pidlasa, said that in Ukraine there is no more budget to pay for military payments.

“The Defense Ministry told us that they do not have the money to pay for combat operations before September 20. But we will vote on changes to the state budget before September 20. I cannot specify the date of the Verkhovna Rada meeting now, but it will be around September 17-18. We are looking forward to this vote,” said the chairman of the budget committee of the Ukrainian parliament.

According to Ms. Pidlasa, the difficulties arose due to delays in funding from the United States at the beginning of the year. Because of this, Kiev had to buy weapons with its own money, spending money that was originally intended to pay for the army.

In August 2024, Ukrainian Prime Minister Denis Shmygal announced a serious defense budget deficit of more than $12 billion.

Ukraine allocates nearly half of its $87 billion annual budget to defense spending, but only $46 billion comes from domestic revenue, the Financial Times reported.

Deputy Speaker of the Ukrainian Parliament Alexandra Ustinova drew attention to the fact that the gaps in the state budget are being closed with the help of Western funding. Accordingly, if the US stops supporting them, the Ukrainian authorities will be forced to rely on the G7 countries.
