After nearly a year on the run in Cambodia, Nguyen Hoang Minh was arrested and brought back to Vietnam for investigation into charges of illegal detention, possession of military weapons, and robbery.
On June 30th, the Dak Lak Provincial Police extradited Nguyen Hoang Minh (29 years old, residing in Tan Tien Ward, Buon Ma Thuot City) from Cambodia to Buon Ma Thuot City for further investigation into the crimes of illegal detention, possession of military weapons, and robbery.

Previously, in mid-June 2017, Minh lent Ms. Nguyen Thi Bich Vi (residing in Khanh Xuan Ward, Buon Ma Thuot City) 250 million VND. Afterward, Minh repeatedly tried to contact Ms. Vi to repay the money, but without success.
On August 15, 2017, Minh drove a car carrying Nguyen Hoang Duy and Nguyen Huu Thai to Ms. Vi's house to demand payment of a debt, then forced her into the car and drove her back to Minh's house.
Here, all three suspects punched and kicked Vi in the face and body, trying to force her to return the borrowed money. Then, Minh loaded a Coit 45 pistol and pointed it at Vi's head, threatening to shoot her, but Thai intervened. Not stopping there, Duy searched Vi's wallet, taking 6 million dong, and all three demanded that Vi pay 40-50 million dong upfront before they would release her.
While Vi was calling home to prepare the ransom money, her family reported the incident to the police. Duy and Thai were arrested afterward, while Minh quickly fled, crossing the border into Cambodia and was subsequently wanted by the Buon Ma Thuot City Police.
After nearly a year of hiding in Cambodia, Minh was arrested by the Buon Ma Thuot City Police in coordination with Cambodian police forces.
