Ministry of Health guides people to choose safe food for Tet
Mr. Nguyen Thanh Phong, Director of the Department of Food Safety (Ministry of Health), said that the demand for confectionery, soft drinks, beer, wine, and essential foods such as meat, sausages, etc. has increased dramatically during Tet. If consumers do not have experience in choosing, they may use fake, poor quality products that are harmful to their health.
Below are guidelines from the Food Safety Department so that consumers can choose safe products:
The first principle is to choose food with clear origin, production date, expiry date, full label information, no mold, and no unpleasant smell.
Consumers also need to be very careful with foods that have eye-catching colors because these products may contain dyes and additives that are harmful to health.
As soon as people discover products suspected of being counterfeit, poor quality, as well as food production, processing and trading establishments that do not ensure food safety, they need to proactively cooperate and notify the authorities, so that the authorities (such as market management agencies, Department of Industry and Trade, commune and ward authorities...) can take measures to inspect, monitor and promptly prevent.
Confectionery is included in the list of foods that are usually required to meet all food safety requirements. Products circulating on the market must declare compliance with food safety regulations at the competent health authority.
Therefore, choose to buy confectionery products that have been declared to comply with food safety regulations (see the label for the symbol: (serial number)/(year of issue of YT + abbreviated name of province, city -XNCB)
Choose candies from reputable brands with clear origins to avoid buying counterfeit products of different designs and brands.
Carefully observe the information on the candy packaging (place of manufacture, date of manufacture, expiration date, ingredients, how to preserve the product).
When buying a gift basket, you need to pay attention to the quality of the candies inside. You should choose the candies yourself and ask the shop owner to arrange them into a gift basket.
To celebrate Tet safely and ensure the health of yourself and your family, each person needs to pay attention to choosing to buy and use food at establishments with fixed locations, clear addresses, reputation, licensed to trade in food, and fully comply with regulations on food trading conditions.
Similar to alcohol, it is necessary to buy alcohol with a clear origin, to avoid the risk of buying fake alcohol mixed with methanol, which is very dangerous to life. Drinking fake methanol can cause brain damage, blindness, and affect internal organs. In fact, methanol poisoning cases have a very high mortality rate, and if saved, it will leave many sequelae.
With fresh foods such as meat, fish, etc., you should buy in moderation to preserve them best, avoid spoilage, rancidity, and bacterial contamination that can cause food poisoning when eaten.
