(Baonghean.vn) - A suspected bomb attack targeting a police vehicle occurred near a bus stop in downtown Istanbul, Türkiye. The city governor confirmed that 11 people were killed and dozens more injured.

According to state-run television channel TRT, a bomb was remotely detonated on June 7 as a vehicle carrying Turkish police officers was passing through the Beyazit district of the historic city.

Eleven people were killed at the scene of the explosion, including seven police officers, Istanbul Governor Vasip Sahin confirmed after the attack. He also stated that at least 36 people were injured.

Ambulances and fire trucks were dispatched to the scene, and images showed chaotic street scenes due to the pressure from the explosion.

The explosion occurred near the Vezeciler metro station, close to several important historical landmarks, including the Suleymaniye Mosque. The site was also near Istanbul University and the Istanbul city administration headquarters.

Türkiye has suffered a series of terrorist attacks since the beginning of the year. Kurdish militants were behind two separate bombings in Ankara, claiming the lives of dozens of innocent people. Last month, at least eight people were injured when a car bomb exploded in Istanbul, an attack for which Kurdish extremists claimed responsibility.
