The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) will announce the final results regarding the document falsification scandal involving seven naturalized Malaysian players on February 25th and 26th.

The future of the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) and its group of naturalized players is hanging in the balance. According to the latest confirmation from FAM Secretary-General Datuk Noor Azman Rahman, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has set the date for its final ruling on the regional scandal for the end of February 2026.

The moment that will decide the fate of Malaysian football.

The incident stemmed from serious violations related to Article 22 of the FIFA Disciplinary Rules (FDC). The world football governing body determined that FAM and a group of seven naturalized players had falsified documents to qualify for international competition. Specifically, these falsified documents helped them participate in Malaysia's 4-0 victory over Vietnam in the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers last June.

At the press conference following the special meeting of the FAM Executive Committee, Datuk Noor Azman Rahman announced:"Regarding CAS, we are awaiting the final ruling on February 25th and 26th."This is seen as a milestone marking the end of a long and tense wait for football fans across the country.

List of 7 players and their current suspensions.

The group of players at the center of the lawsuit includes: Gabriel Felipe Arrocha, Facundo Garces, Rodrigo Holgado, Imanol Manchuca, Joao Figueiredo, Jon Irazabal, and Hector Hevel. Previously, FIFA had issued a very heavy penalty with a fine of 350,000 CHF and a 12-month suspension from playing for the individuals involved.

Currently, these players can still play thanks to a temporary suspension of the CAS ruling. However, this privilege is only temporary and will be immediately revoked if CAS upholds FIFA's decision at the end of next month. The absence of these seven key players will undoubtedly leave a huge personnel void for the Malaysian national team.

The integrity crisis at FAM

Not only is Malaysian football facing international sanctions, but it is also experiencing internal turmoil. All members of the FAM Executive Committee for the 2025-2029 term have simultaneously submitted their resignations. This move is explained as an effort to protect the organization's integrity against allegations of systematic document fraud.

From a professional perspective, the upcoming CAS ruling will not only determine the players' eligibility to compete but could also directly affect the results of previous matches and the standing of Malaysian football on the international stage. The Southeast Asian football community is holding its breath awaiting the final outcome on February 25th and 26th in Switzerland.
