Yen Thanh football team is determined to defend their Nghe An Newspaper Cup title.
(Baonghean.vn) - In terms of track record, Yen Thanh football may not yet be comparable to Do Luong or Quynh Luu, but the two championships in the Children's and Youth categories at the 2018 Nghe An Newspaper Cup Youth Football Tournament are a great motivation for the teams from this rice-growing region.
In 2007, when Phan Van Duc, Pham Xuan Manh, and Hoang Vu Dat, wearing the Yen Thanh Children's team jersey, faced Do Luong Children's team in the final match, Yen Thanh football began to establish itself in the Nghe An Newspaper Cup Youth and Children's Football Tournament.
Following their victories in the junior football category at the Nghe An Newspaper Cup for Youth and Children's Football for two consecutive years (2011 and 2012), Yen Thanh football demonstrated its strength and potential for development. Although they missed out on the junior football championship three times in the following three years, 2018 was a year of great success for Yen Thanh football.

Last season, the Yen Thanh Children's team, with a well-balanced squad, advanced to the final and convincingly defeated the "giant" Do Luong 5-1. Meanwhile, the Yen Thanh Youth team also narrowly beat Quynh Luu 1-0 to lift the Cup. Yen Thanh football has also provided SLNA with many high-quality young players who have won numerous championships over the past year, such as Truong Van Tuyen, Vuong Van Tung, and Nguyen Van Bach.
That success serves as both motivation and considerable pressure for the coaches of Yen Thanh as they prepare for this year's season. To prepare for the biggest tournament of the year for youth teams, after the Lunar New Year, the Yen Thanh Cultural and Sports Center prepared the fields and other facilities to facilitate training for the players; assigning staff and coaches to oversee the Youth and Children's teams. The two amateur teams in Yen Thanh have begun training with a frequency of four sessions per week before finalizing the official squad.
The examples of Phan Van Duc and Pham Xuan Manh always inspire the young players of Yen Thanh to train hard. The influence of these two stars has also helped many children participate in football training, nurturing their dreams of becoming professional players. Every year, Yen Thanh district organizes a football tournament for two age groups, youth and children, requiring all 39 communes to participate and prepare seriously.

The effective selection process and the special attention from the district leadership have helped the Yen Thanh Youth team maintain depth in its squad. In 2018, five players from Yen Thanh were sent to the SLNA academy for training, and this year, that number remains the same. These are key players who could determine the success of the Yen Thanh Youth team this season, and even the National Youth Football Tournament, such as Phan Doan Chinh, Vo Quang Huy, Nguyen Van Hung, Phan Dinh Tri, and Vo Minh Quan.
In addition, this year coach Nguyen Duc Nhan has added many outstanding players from the amateur youth academy opened by SLNA in Yen Thanh. The combination of professional and talented players will make Yen Thanh Youth Team the strongest contender.
Meanwhile, the Yen Thanh Youth team, led by coach Vu Duc Quyet, also possesses high determination. Their success in recent years' Children's tournaments and the emergence of many talented players provide a solid foundation for Yen Thanh Youth entering this competition with confidence. Currently, Yen Thanh has quite a few players born in 2006 with good skills and the goal is to win a medal. The team has been training since mid-May and is in the process of narrowing down the squad, with a spirited training atmosphere.

Winning the Nghe An Newspaper Cup Youth and Children's Football Tournament is difficult, but defending the title is even harder, especially in the context of the evenly developing amateur football scene throughout the province.
Mr. Nguyen Viet Cong, Deputy Director of the Yen Thanh District Sports Center, said: “Because the Yen Thanh Children's and Youth teams are the reigning champions, the challenges will be greater than last year's season. This year's teams will receive significant investment, so we don't dare predict anything. However, Yen Thanh will enter the tournament with caution and high concentration, along with strong determination and respect for our opponents.”
