A school principal has been arrested for embezzling funds intended for ethnic minority boarding school students.
The Police Investigation Agency has initiated a criminal case, prosecuted and arrested the suspect (former principal) Tran Ngoc Ha for temporary detention on the charge of "Abusing position and authority while performing official duties".
On October 23, the Criminal Investigation Agency of the Lao Cai Provincial Police Department initiated a criminal case, prosecuted, and arrested a suspect for temporary detention on charges of "Abusing one's position and authority while performing official duties.This occurred at Hoang Thu Pho 1 School, Hoang Thu Pho commune, Bac Ha district, Lao Cai province.
Specifically, the Economic Police Department of the Lao Cai Provincial Police, in coordination with the Bac Ha District Police, issued a decision to initiate a criminal case, indict the suspect, and execute an arrest warrant for temporary detention against Tran Ngoc Ha (born in 1977; former Principal of Hoang Thu Pho 1 Ethnic Boarding Primary School) to investigate the crime of "Abusing position and power while performing official duties" as stipulated in Point b, Clause 2, Article 356 of the 2015 Penal Code, amended and supplemented in 2017. These decisions and warrants were approved by the Lao Cai Provincial People's Procuracy before implementation.

Based on the collected documents, it has been initially determined that from 2022 to 2023, Tran Ngoc Ha directed the withdrawal of 765,264,000 VND from the policy support funds for students (as stipulated in Government Decree 116/2016/ND-CP dated July 18, 2016).
The Investigation Police Department of Lao Cai province determined that, out of the total amount mentioned above, Tran Ngoc Ha had misused and misappropriated 52,538,200 VND.
The Investigation Police Department of Lao Cai province conducted a search of the residence of suspect Tran Ngoc Ha in Tai Chai commune, Bac Ha district, Lao Cai province.
The Investigation Police Department of Lao Cai province continues to coordinate with the People's Procuratorate of Lao Cai province to investigate and expand the case in accordance with the law.
