The 2015 Balkan International Boxing Tournament took place in Bulgaria with the participation of 130 boxers from 21 countries. The Vietnamese women's boxing team participated with four athletes: Nguyen Thi Huyen Phuong, Ha Thi Linh, Nguyen Thi Tam, and Le Thi Ngoc Anh. Coach Nguyen Nhu Cuong said the team participated in the tournament to gain experience in preparation for their campaign to qualify for the 2016 Olympics.

However, in Bulgaria, the Vietnamese women's boxing team caused a surprise by winning one gold and one silver medal. The winner of the precious gold medal was Nguyen Thi Huyen Phuong, in the 48 kg weight category. The Vietnamese boxer defeated Simova Dariel of host Bulgaria in the semi-finals and Siriwan Phuengpanya of Thailand in the final, both with a score of 3-0.

Ha Thi Linh also performed exceptionally well and advanced to the final of the 57 kg weight category. However, the 2013 SEA Games champion from Myanmar was convincingly defeated 0-3 by Aubin Sabrina of Canada in the final match.

"This is an unexpected success for the team. Importantly, this tournament brought together strong fighters from Europe, allowing our athletes to learn many skills and gain valuable experience to help them qualify for the 2016 Rio Olympics," Coach Nguyen Nhu Cuong shared.
