Quang Tien pink grapefruit 'makes a lot of money'

(Baonghean.vn) - Quang Tien Ward is the locality with the largest grapefruit growing area in Thai Hoa town. Currently, the locality has nearly 100 households growing grapefruit with nearly 17 thousand trees, of which, more than half of the households growing in large quantities have harvested.

For nearly ten years now, Mr. Nguyen Hong Cong’s family in Trung Nghia block has had a relatively comfortable life thanks to his family’s grapefruit garden. With an area of ​​1.4 hectares, his family grows 400 Quang Tien pink grapefruit trees, making him one of the largest grapefruit growers in Quang Tien ward.

It is expected that in this year's harvest, he will sell about 25 to 30 tons of grapefruit to the market. Compared to previous years, this year's harvest is good and the price is good. He estimates that with the current price, he will earn a profit of over 600 million VND. To successfully grow Quang Tien pink grapefruit, he has spent a lot of time visiting to learn from experience, researching grapefruit varieties, and care techniques.

Mr. Le Van Thang in Le Loi block said: “This year’s grapefruit crop is much better than previous years, the grapefruit is less susceptible to pests and diseases, and produces a lot of fruit. My family has nearly 170 trees, each tree bears an average of 120-180 fruits. Last year, the selling price at the garden was only 20-22 thousand VND/kg, but this year it has increased by one and a half times, currently the selling price at the garden fluctuates from 25-30 thousand VND/kg. It is expected that after deducting expenses, the income will be nearly 200 million VND/year.”

Quang Tien pink grapefruit is purchased by traders right at the garden and consumed in neighboring provinces and cities. This year, although the erratic climate has affected the growth of the trees, thanks to careful care before and after harvest, Quang Tien pink grapefruit has a good harvest and good price.

The reason why Quang Tien pink grapefruit is popular with customers is because the segments are smooth, juicy, the segments are pink, crispy, sweet, and do not have a bitter taste like other grapefruits. The fruit weighs from 1.5 - 2 kg, each tree, depending on age, has 100 - 200 fruits, and yields about 2.5 to 3 quintals/tree.

This year, pomelo growers are not only happy because their products are recognized as clean agricultural brands, but the application of scientific and technological advances in production also helps pomelos have a good harvest and good prices.

To build the Quang Tien pink grapefruit brand, in early 2017, Thai Hoa town linked grapefruit growers in Quang Tien ward and Nghia Tien commune to apply the care process according to the JICA project. The project's goal is to apply science and technology to production according to a safe process, creating uniformity in color and weight of grapefruit.
