After just 27 days of intensive deployment, BYD officially put its 5,000th fast charging station into operation, marking a breakthrough in ultra-fast electric vehicle charging technology.

BYD Electric Vehicles has just announced a significant milestone: the opening of its 5,000th fast-charging station via its official Weibo account. Notably, this achievement was accomplished in just 27 days of rapid deployment, with the newest charging point located in the Qinglan Highway Service Area near Lanzhou, Gansu Province.

Currently, BYD's charging infrastructure network covers 297 cities in China. This rapid expansion is part of a strategy to thoroughly address the "battery charging concern"—the biggest barrier for consumers switching to electric vehicles.

Blade's second-generation battery technology: Charges as fast as refueling.

Besides expanding the number of charging stations, BYD also impressed with the charging efficiency of its latest generation Blade battery. According to technical data from the company, models equipped with the second-generation Blade battery can charge from 10% to 70% in just about 5 minutes.

To charge from 10% to 97%, users only need about 9 minutes under standard temperature conditions. Even when operating in extremely cold environments at -30°C, charging from 20% to 97% only takes about 12 minutes, which is only about 3 minutes slower than under normal conditions. This is considered a superior performance, narrowing the gap between electric vehicles and traditional gasoline cars.

Optimal safety standards and user experience.

BYD's Blade battery system focuses not only on speed but also prioritizes durability and safety. The battery has passed 500 consecutive fast-charging cycles and needle puncture tests without causing a fire. The company also offers a lifetime warranty on the battery cells to affirm their quality.

In terms of infrastructure, BYD's fast charging stations are designed with ultra-lightweight suspension cables, weighing only about 2kg. This design helps keep the connector clean, away from the ground, and easy to operate. The system supports automatic detection and charging as soon as the charger is plugged in, eliminating the need for user interaction via smartphone.

Ambition to dominate electric vehicle charging infrastructure.

Reaching the 5,000 charging station milestone is a stepping stone towards BYD's larger goal: establishing 20,000 fast-charging stations nationwide by the end of 2026. This plan includes installations in urban areas and dedicated charging centers along major highways.

BYD's high-power fast charging strategy is putting significant pressure on rivals like Nio and CATL. Experts predict that, at the current rate of construction, BYD's network will far surpass the coverage of its competitors' battery swapping stations by 2026, further intensifying competition in megawatt charging technology in the global electric vehicle market.
