Mass fish deaths, rice fields submerged in mud after flood
(Baonghean.vn) - Prolonged rain and floods caused the water level on the Lam River to rise and flow rapidly, killing fish in cages in the mountainous district of Con Cuong, leaving many households penniless. Hundreds of hectares of rice in this district also turned yellow in the mud.

The flood situation is complicated, to ensure the safety of the dam and prevent large floods, Ban Ve Hydropower Plant on the upper Lam River has released a large amount of flood water, causing fish cage farmers on the Lam River to be unable to react. Some cages were swept away, others died en masse due to sudden changes in water sources.
In Chau Khe commune (Con Cuong), there are 6 fish cages of 6 households, each cage holds an average of 200 fish, the fish are raised for 1-2 years, each fish weighs from 2 - 3kg. Up to this point, more than 3 tons of fish have died, mainly grass carp; estimated damage is more than 200 million VND.

Immediately after the incident, local authorities mobilized forces to support people in catching fish, avoiding water pollution in Lam River; at the same time, focusing on overcoming the consequences of the flood.

As of the afternoon of August 18, more than 3,000 hectares of rice in the province were flooded, more than 1,500 hectares of annual crops were flooded, more than 7,000 livestock died, and 597 hectares of aquaculture area were flooded.
