Seven individuals detained for online football betting via 'bong88'.

On December 2nd, the Dong Xoai City Police (Binh Phuoc province) announced that they are continuing to detain and investigate seven individuals involved in illegal football betting during the 2022 World Cup. The total amount of money initially admitted by the suspects to betting is approximately 1 billion VND.

The individuals involved in the gambling included: NVP (born in 1989, Thuan Thanh 1 hamlet) and D.TS (born in 1998, Thuan Phu 2 hamlet), both from Thuan Phu commune, Dong Phu district; MVT (born in 1988, village 2, Long Hung commune, Phu Rieng district); TNL (born in 2005, Lang Ba hamlet) and PHP (born in 2002, neighborhood 3, both from Tien Thanh ward, Dong Xoai city); HH (born in 2001) and NTGH (born in 2005), both from Phu Xuan neighborhood, Tan Phu ward, Dong Xoai city.

The individuals were detained for investigation into involvement in football betting.

At the police station, the suspects stated that on November 20th, when the 2022 World Cup began, NVP contacted MVT to access a football betting website with the domain name "bong88" and multiple accounts. NVP then acted as a bookmaker for many people, including D.TS.

After receiving the betting contract from NVP, D.TS contacted NTGH and agreed that if anyone wanted to bet on football, they could accept the bets and pass them on to D.TS to earn a commission. Therefore, NTGH accepted bets from TNL, HH, and several others. As for HH, in addition to betting with NTGH, she also bet directly with PHP.

The suspects used mobile phones to send betting messages, with stakes ranging from 5 to 50 million VND per match. By the time of their arrest, they had bet a total of approximately 1 billion VND, with winnings and losses settled through bank accounts.

By November 30th, through investigative measures, the Dong Xoai City Police had arrested and detained the seven aforementioned individuals. Currently, the Dong Xoai City Police are continuing to expand the investigation into the case.
