Large numbers of farmed fish, a local specialty, are dying in Tuong Duong.
(Baonghean.vn) - Several households in Hoa Binh town (Tuong Duong district) suffered significant losses due to the mass death of fish in cages.
In Hoa Binh town (Tuong Duong district), fish raised in cages by several households have died in large numbers. According to Mr. Nguyen Dinh Hien, a resident of Hoa Tay ward, Hoa Binh town: "On the afternoon of August 24th, when I went down to feed the fish in the cages, I noticed some fish dying, but only a few so I didn't pay much attention. However, on the morning of August 25th, I saw that the fish were dying in large numbers."

Mr. Hien also added that, up to this point, his family has suffered losses of no less than 30 million VND.
Similarly, at Ms. Dong's family fish farm in Hoa Tay ward, a similar fish kill occurred. According to Ms. Dong, in her two fish cages, which mainly housed catfish and snakehead fish, her family initially estimated a loss of over 30kg.

The phenomenon of mass fish deaths in cages is not the first time it has occurred; however, this time it mainly affects catfish and snakehead fish, which are species that prefer clean water. According to preliminary estimates, the total damage to households in Hoa Binh town is approximately 60 million VND.
