Surgery to save fetus with one arm sticking out of mother's womb
A pregnant woman in Quang Ninh had her water break, one of her baby's hands fell out of her womb and is showing signs of acute fetal distress.
The pregnant woman was brought to the Vietnam - Sweden Uong Bi Hospital on January 27 with her water broken, the fetus in a deteriorating transverse position, and one of the baby's hands had fallen out. The mother had uterine fibroids.
Dr. Nguyen Minh Thuyet, Deputy Head of the Department of Treatment on Demand, said this was a very rare case. The pregnant woman had a large fibroid tumor in her uterus, which posed many potential risks.

The pregnant woman was quickly operated on by the doctor for an emergency cesarean section. The fibroid was very large, occupying the entire area from the isthmus to the bottom of the uterus, causing the uterine wall to be very thick, making it difficult to operate and access the fetus. The doctor had a hard time getting the 2.2 kg baby out safely.
Currently, the health of mother and child is stable.
Dr. Thuyet said that pregnant women at risk of premature birth or abnormal fetal position need to be closely monitored and managed. When there are signs of labor, pregnant women should immediately go to specialized obstetric medical facilities, because if not supported promptly, it will cause trauma to the fetus and loss of fetal heart rate due to umbilical cord prolapse.
