Singer Duyen Quynh: A journey of overcoming hardship from poverty to becoming an outstanding young citizen.
Having experienced a difficult childhood and the pain of not having enough money to pay for her mother's medical treatment, winner Duyen Quynh has strived to rise above her circumstances and become a prominent artist in Ho Chi Minh City.
Duyen Quynh, a female singer born in 1990 in Buon Ma Thuot, Dak Lak, is currently one of the most versatile artists in the Vietnamese music scene. Before achieving the title of Outstanding Young Citizen of Ho Chi Minh City 2025, she went through a long and arduous journey, rising from nothing and overcoming profound family challenges.
The turbulent childhood and resilience of a poor student.
Born into a once well-off family, Duyen Quynh's family was forced to sell all their assets and move from the city to live on a farm when she had just finished first grade. In third grade, her parents divorced, and her mother single-handedly worked as a traditional medicine practitioner and acupuncturist to support her children's education.

Despite her father's opposition to pursuing an artistic career, Duyen Quynh was determined to enroll in the Ho Chi Minh City Conservatory of Music with her mother's support. During her student years, she only received a monthly allowance of 900,000 VND to cover all her living expenses. To become independent, she worked various jobs, from serving at cafes and handing out flyers to singing in music venues, initially earning only a few tens of thousands of VND.

In the memories of her colleagues, Duyen Quynh at that time was often mistaken for an assistant or a lottery ticket seller because of her simple style, often wearing her brother's hand-me-downs to performances due to difficult economic circumstances.

The pain of losing his mother and a turning point in his career.
The biggest tragedy struck when Duyen Quynh's mother was diagnosed with cancer. At that time, due to limited finances, she and her sister had to knit handmade items to earn extra money for medication, and could only afford to treat their mother with traditional medicine instead of radiation or chemotherapy at the hospital.

In 2017, her mother passed away. After a year of paying off debts and stabilizing her emotions, Duyen Quynh decided to fulfill her mother's wish to become a professional solo singer. Since 2019, she has continuously achieved success with prestigious titles: Runner-up in the Powerful Band competition, Winner of the Love Storyteller competition, and Winner of the Shining Star competition (2022).

An artistic connection with musician Nguyen Van Chung
Throughout her career, Duyen Quynh considers musician Nguyen Van Chung a great benefactor. Despite rumors of a romantic relationship, the female singer affirms that their relationship is one of close professional respect and mutual understanding.

The real turning point for Duyen Quynh came with the song "Continuing the Story of Peace". After being revamped and widely shared on social media platforms, the song garnered billions of views and became a featured work in major political commentary programs.

Artist of the community and a prestigious title.
Currently, despite higher fees and more bookings than before, Duyen Quynh still maintains a stable budget for political and community programs for students and soldiers. She believes that music is a way to spread happiness and express gratitude for what she has received from life.

Besides her role as a singer, Duyen Quynh has also made her mark in the fields of voice acting for animated films and music composition. For her positive contributions to art and her hometown, she was honored with the title of Outstanding Young Citizen of Ho Chi Minh City 2025.
